Hmm maybe the stabilizing linkage is pushing….. lol Sounds like tension
on belt slipping. The purpose of the power steering pump is to apply
hydrolic pressure via power steering fluid to assist the fluid into the
steering rack helping you to assist steering. It work as like a brake
booster kind of but the brake booster using engine vacume to help the user
to press small pressure at the brake pedal to allow a greater force through
the master cylinder to increase hydrolic pressure that presses great
pressure at the brake capiler piston which in turn presses the brake pad
against the rotor stopping the car. Another symptom of the power steering
pump going bad is a noise when turning the steering wheel. Cold and hot
weather can affect a faulty power steering system differently. So to sum
this u please the power steering pump assists your steering to allow a
light turn to turn something more heavy. The pump is driven by the
balancer(crank pully, which the AC belt drives the water pump which in turn
drives the power steering pump. That’s it….

gereral1 says:

Is your engine dust cover intact? The reason for the dust covers is to
prevent water from hitting the belts causing slippage. I’m heard once a guy
got water on his power steering belt and his power assist steering was hard
to steer
only when it was snowing on raining.

gereral1 says:

Check tension on power steering belt! A belt wearing out, a pully on the
pump, check boots on steering rack, Check linkage boots on suspension, take
belts off and check water pump pully that power steering belt wraps around.
I made these video because my belts started to squeek. Replaced all 3 and
My car was quiet. Look for a timing belt video high detail within a week.
Just need to edit the recorded video. I am leaning toward the stabalizer
linkage, check it by removing tire. It a bar that is behind the rotor near
the spring. It has 2 rubber bushings on each one. Check to see if it
wiggles or if the boots have seperated.

My little sisters 3rd Gen Accent (Alpha 2 motor) 1.6L, shrieks when she
starts it up and goes away once she’s driven a bit. It is cold this time of
year for her where she’s going to school, so I’m thinking it’s the AC belt.
Your thoughts, gereral1?

Robert McIntyre says:

Firstly thank you very much for making this awesome video over this
procedure on this specific car it helps a lot. Also I happen to have the
exact same car as you and same year (just so happens the color as well) and
since the cold weather has started my car squeals very loudly on start up
around the belt area of the engine and persists when my power steering is
used and I can feel a hitch in my power steering when it happens. I think
it is my power steering belt slipping and making the noise. I was thinking
about tightening the belt and see if it fixes it which lead me to your
video. Have you seen or heard anything like this on this model of car or
have any suggestions of what would fix this issue?

Jeremiah Newell says:

Thanks for the insight that something could be wrong with warranted parts
during belt replacement.. I’ve got 8k miles left on warranty and 2 belts to
replace.. I’m going to have the dealership take care of them! Thanks again!

gereral1 says:

I don’t think belts, radio and lights are covered. But I could be wrong

gereral1 says:

2 tests. remove Ac belt, run.. squeeking? if yes it’s not your Ac system,
if no put sthescope on the compressor pully and listen for squeek and feel
for play. as for your compressor clutch if you have window defogger on the
Ac is active. if the AC button in car off off and the clutch engages it’s
most likely computer or the as witch in you car panel is shorted. the
clutch will come on and off at random if the AC button is pressed! this is
normal

gereral1 says:

also if window defogger is on it will engage the AC system as well and also
turn on both radiator fans!

Noel Santos says:

Thanks for sharing! I’m thinking that my Elantra may need a whole new AC
compressor. The clutch engages at will which in turn has worn out the
bearing. During prolong driving and when she’s cold. She gives off a
chirping noise. I’m thinking that just replacing the bearing will not
completely solve clutch engaging at will.

Danny Romero says:

Thanks for the video!

gereral1 says:
