MFDYER36 says:

@snaponjohn100 I need help taking the four bolts off of the pulley that
turns the alternator, the thing is is that the alternator tension bolt
broke so there is no tension in my belts to loosen the four little bolts,
how do I keep the pulley from moving without the tension from all the
belts?

spelunkerd says:

That’s a nice video, John. With you coming from a pro working place, it
must be awkward trying to do this with your home tools in the driveway. You
guys who split your tools in two places have extra frustration. But, for
the DIY viewer, it’s also cool to see that it’s not all about tools, it’s
about confidence and experience.

007vauxhall says:

Thank you for doing this, very helpful and interesting. Paul.

megamyers says:

could be a misfire, compression test would tell you alot

Bill Eaglerunner says:

Thank you for posting this video. It made it easier to change my timing
belt. Great job.

TheAwakenedSoul1 says:

I’m stuck on the lower crank shaft pully removal, I’ve tried a 13/16
socket, on a 1/2 impact drive but the socket started to spin, as it was the
wrong size..Does anyone know the size of that bolt? I don’t have a set, and
buying them by themselves are quite expensive and I don’t have the cash set
aside to purchase a set…Thanks!!

EDWARD ALFRED says:

i can do that in 15 mins for the record

megamyers says:

great vid man, i have this job now too and always appriciate the research
provided by previous gents such as yourself.

tobin mccullough says:

hey john i really appeciated the video. I have a 2004 hyundai accent and
have been having issues and hoping its not the timing belt. the other day i
was driving home when i downshifted into second to make a turn the car just
died. it woulnt start afterwards but would crank but made an aweful whining
noise the first attempt. now it sounds normal but wont start. I have
checked the spark and can still hear the fuel pump running and im running
out of things i can think of any suggestions??

smurray71 says:

Thanks for the helpful video’s !!! I also have a 2001 Accent 1.6L & after
checking out these two videos I decided to change all 4 belts (A/C, PS,
Alternator, Timing) on my own. Of course I still ended up buying a Haynes
manual for a couple of things like how to break the Crankshaft flywheel
bolt loose, and the proper torque settings when putting everything back
together. Took longer than I would have liked, but not shelling out the
$400 in labor charges at the dealership made up for it!

Kilin Chilin says:

Is this procedure the same as for hyundai accent 1998 ?

TheAwakenedSoul1 says:

Thank you for this, this is going to help me out quite a bit here soon.

snaponjohn100 says:

Yes. The crank sensor is probably pushed out by rust. Pull it out and clean
all the rust out of and around hole. Then put it back in and try again.
Sensor is on driver’s side, front of engine about 2/3 down. ( at level of
crank shaft). God bless. John

EDWARD ALFRED says:

thats fukin stupid to remove those, i styrongly recomend just to remove the
all the belts and timing belt cover, your just making thing much harder
dick headf

LUIS FERNANDO AMAYA MURRIETA says:

Explaining me better: The Oil Pan Gasket has broken, I have not found it in
Hermosillo, Sonora, México. Could you give me some alternative? Thanks

snaponjohn100 says:

@theophany1770 No problem.

Anthony Kainber says:

My Engine shakes when i accelerate in first gear and another thing when i
go to 40-60 goes up slowly when i pop it in 4 gear and i believe i lost
horsepower also what would be the problem?

T Hirano says:

Next tool your love ones can get you for your next b-day or Xmas — tripod
for your camera.

JustKeepOnTruckinn says:

im about to buy a 2000 hyundai for cheap, apparently only needs a timing
belt, if this guy turned it over and over, is the motor gonna be junk or do
i just line up the points on the gears and throw the new belt on

snaponjohn100 says:

@TheAwakenedSoul1 Happy to help.

Prepare2Survive says:

That was a good explanation in the beginning except you forgot to mention
that the belt also drives the oil pump and distributor in some older cars.
I know you knew that and you probably just didn’t mention it because you
wanted to only talk about the basics.

snaponjohn100 says:

@007vauxhall I am glad that you enjoyed it, my friend. God bless. John

LUIS FERNANDO AMAYA MURRIETA says:

Thank for your AMAZING video :D, I have a Hyundai Verna 2004 (spanish
version of the accent 2004) I need fix the oil pan (carter in spanish),
could you explain how can we do? Thanks Again (y)

firedemon101 says:

I have somewhat of the same problem as you. I have a 2007 Hyundai Accent
and between 40 – 55 kph i get a shudder in the engine and stops once it
passes that speed.

Valérie Lemieux says:

tanx for the tips ;D

moredoing says:

@JustKeepOnTruckinn: Buyer beware. I have an 2001 Accent, I think it has an
interference engine so if the timing belt is broken, then the engine is
close to garbage.

big guy says:

does that mean ford, chevy, mopar with metric bolts are oriental

evilpopcorn08 says:

any advice for trying to get the water pump pully off? The four 10m bolts
are being quite a bitch trying to remove. I don’t have the luxury of using
air tools, so i’m working with just a ratchet. It’s quite difficult to keep
the pully still while trying to remove the bolts. I’ve sprayed some pb
blaster, yet I doubt they’re really sticking shut anyways…I’m just a
mechanic noob trying to fix my gf’s car for her.

theophany1770 says:

Awesome man, Thanks. I’ve got an ’03 Accent

snaponjohn100 says:

@spelunkerd It is a lot of standing and lying on your back. Will never get
used to the lying on your back part. lol Glad that I could help you. God
bless. John

person9784 says:

hey john i appreciated the video, but i need you to do more than commentary
every bolt or whatever i need you to take it out piece by piece while
commentary it on what to do next and how to take it out while doing it,
helps me and other people to understand it well. Hope you read the
comments, so next time you do video it will help others.

Digi Doodlez says:

We have a 2007 accent. It just turned off while my husband was driving out
of his work parking lot. No noise or anything. Like turning the key off.
Now it won’t start and no sounds when the key is turned. Do you think it
could be the timing belt?

Nakia518 says:

thank you so much for these videos. you saved me some money. God bless you
and thank you for sharing you knowledge.

Cephron says:

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. My wife has a 2000 Accent
and it died one day… we came to realize we had underestimated the life of
the timing belt. I decided to change the belt myself before taking it
somewhere. I watched your video and it was very helpful, with only a couple
minor differences on the 2000 model. Happy ending–because we were driving
so slowly and it died suddenly, there was apparently no serious damage. It
has been running fine ever since, only a $35 fix!!
