Mercedes tried this crap too. Bought a Chinese knockoff device to reset stuff on my cars.

Another reason we need to expand public transit.

Everything-as-a-service.

@tsouristv5178 says:

There are mechanical ways to retract these emergency brake pistons, this software isn't needed.

@Varmint260 says:

There's a reason both my vehicles are from the 90s. Okay, it's cost, I'm cheap and refuse to have car payments. But also, I can find and order nearly any part for my 1997 pickup truck then replace said part with simple hand tools.

@mamiphmotors says:

I just did my pads on my 2023 hyundai and had to use a professional grade obd reader with Internet connection to access my abs system to bleed my brakes.

@DanaSevern says:

You can fix your own car. But you have to buy the same scan tools and subscription to the data to do it. However they are designed to do multiple cars not just the one you own. I was finally able to afford that scan tool for my my 1995 pickup. Now I can repair my truck on my own. Finding parts is another problem.

Looks like I'm going to keep driving my indestructible 2005 Volvo for a long time to come… am just not very impressed by the selection of new vehicles.

@worldnews4347 says:

Unfortunatelly you are wrong here: hand brakes are ELECTRICAL. YOU CALIBRATE POSITION OF PISTON AFTER REPLACE PAD IN SOME CARS.
but yea, dumb that you need internet for that

@NakedSombreroMan says:

People just need to stop buying these products.

@jurgmanx4644 says:

They even try to stop making and selling of parts of "cars too old" to support. The junk and secondary markets also dont care about anything other than "what sells". Dont even begin to make your own car… Edison motors saga is a current example of them and the government being antiClippy. Yeah that is a thing now. Our mascot we appropriated from mikrozoft.

@SineNomine-bt6ir says:

Chrysler no longer makes the ABS module for my 2011-2013 Chrysler 200 convertible … its a VIN encoded part so I may be screwed trying to get one in the junkyard. Car is in perfect condition w 97,000mi and I may not be able to fix it
