How To Replace Rear Parking Brake Shoes – Hyundai Sonata

How To Replace Rear Parking Brake Shoes – Hyundai Sonata

In this video I replace the rear parking brake shoes on a 2009 Hyundai Sonata. It is a fairly simple straight forward task and is the same on most vehicles with rear disc brakes. – Enjoy!

Tired old mechanic says:

You keep saying you don't have a TV but make many references to television shows as you work. Those tiny drum-type parking brakes are a joke. Almost all cars now use disc brakes because they provide better braking but they revert to old technology in a much smaller size to use as a parking/emergency brake.

Eric Obrochta, thanks sooo much for all you do.. you are a God Send sir! I watch your vids as often as i can to compare my mechanic here in Omaha, to what "really" a mechanic can do without all the $$ locals here charge additional fees for parts and won't let us bring our own to their shops.. so a simple $100 job costs us here over $5oo.oo!
thanks for bringing all the info you do to we the less educated.
If you really want to know lol. iwatched that vid and it was funny as heck.
Keep up the great , and honest work you do…with humor an detail as to what you do during your videos..it is important to us watching

kdmq says:

I usually pull the shoes off the actuator before removing the top spring. The idea is that the tops of the shoes get closer together than usual and the spring should be easy to remove. Do this method at your own risk as I am not liable for your lost fingers.

It's really a personal choice. If you feel safer just yanking the spring off first, go for it.

Airless paintsprayer and chainsaw bar oil once a year. Brakes can be a whooooooeeeee till ya get off the mountain and burned off the excess. Perhaps the parking shoes never get heated enough to "clean up" Ya come out looking like a grease monkey when you work on it but it comes apart (close to Canada)
