There is a few ways. One way is to hold the flywheel from turning ether by remove the dust shield or the starter to access the fly wheel

Stuart James says:

Great Vid, how did you stop the crank turning when you torqued it up?

AZ DONALD says:

hey jim,
do you have a video showing replacement of the timing belt on a 3.5 santa fe?
.

35 Miles Per Hour says:

Jim, the music that starts right at 11:47 is OK. Everything else sounds like game show music. If you could replace all the other music with 11:47 music, your videos would be 100 times more enjoyable.

Eugene Groby says:

It would be much easier to watch you talk about as your performing the work, might wish to invest in a camera that is head mounted and easier to watch if you moved things out of the way. Could not even see the identifying marks on the left cam as your light and other hoses were in the way.

JOE FORD DIY says:

the description says timing belt

Pete Miller says:

I noticed that once you pulled the grenade pin you did not completely rotate the belt, 2 full rotations to further confirmed that the timing marks lined up. I do that before installing the front covers.

ChicagoDoItYourself Now says:

All good ideas.. but if you have dealt with customers…. the old this should be done when I'm in there and it's only another $600…. customers really don't want to hear that.. all you can do is suggest… some get IRATE thinking all you're doing is trying to rip them off.. some of these parts are ridiculously expensive.. .. gone are the days of the $25 water pump and .5 hrs labor.. I think Jim should answer this himself.. people are NOT fun.. he tries his best to fix the things he can to get people back on the road without endangering anyone … GO JIM … tell them about life 🙂 🙂

Sam Rugtiv says:

good job jim, but I would have put on a water pump and timing belt tensioner at the same time very well done Jim thanks sam

aengmax says:

Jim, isn't it true when changing timing belt/chain for most cars it's best to replace other components like water pump, tensioner and guides? Because you need to remove them using the same procedure. Great video btw… 🙂

DJ R says:

Manufacturers seem to be making these belts more and more difficult to get to especially having to remove the engine mount. How many hours did you allocate for this job? I also like to turn the engine over by hand before using the starter just as a final check. There is no turning back once you crank it especially for those less experienced than yourself.

Paul M says:

Jim : Great vid. One question though: How do you keep the engine from turning when you torque the crank pulley bolt during re-assembly? Thank You for making such great videos!

George Gardinier says:

my brother at the same year, had this done twice by the dealership. perhaps not done correctly yet, less power my 2011 has a chain inside as the manual says

MikeP47 says:

10:05 that's my new favorite time lapse music on this channel, well done.

lidsman22 says:

Jim Is there any other maintenance that you would suggest doing while doing a big job like this? Thanks for the video.

hllywd964 says:

Filiberto Vargas says:

Petar says:

I did not understand what i need to mark ( minute 27:00 ).Do i need to mark the timing belt with white paint where the sprocket marks are?

wyattoneable says:

I had no doubt it would start the first time. 🙂 Nice work Jim.
