How can you reach from solenoid to inside of the cab w a normal mm?

mnetwork says:

Actually it is called a starter solenoid.. and then there is a usually a
relay that goes in between the solenoid and ignition…

josh bonas says:

I have a 1989 mustang gt and im restoring it anyway it started just fine
but one day i went to start it n it would just click….all my fuses and
relays are good so is the battery…i also started it from the solenoid
with the screw driver n when i let go the car shut off. .soni changed the
solenoid and now tbere is no clicking and no power to my dash..

I wish I learned auto mechanics when I as young

331sbf says:

A solenoid is on the starter and they have their own relay built inside.Oh
what does a solenoid do that’s right it takes electrical power and turns it
into mechanical energy which pushes the pinon gear to the flywheel. I guess
all the relays in the main power box are solenoids too. ballsniff13 thanks
for providing no information you dumb shit.

irishpimp1001 says:

i thought the same thing, lol

Michael Carrillo says:

hkssupra86 says:

MissMandaG says:

I’ve been using Napa parts. It actually stopped doing it one day. I think
it might have been a bad ground? Idk But I have a warrantee on it so Napa
can just keep replacing if they want. Oh, and I already replaced the
ignition switch too.

Tartan Foursix says:

could just be these fine made in mexico parts? where you getting your
parts. o reilys auto zone have shit parts. napa is your best bet. not sure
about pep boys that chain aint here. possible the ignition switch is worn
and not canceling the current to the starter solenoid when you rock the key
back out of the start side to run side. does the key switch feal odd or
wore out when you cycle it thru its settings. not proof of failure but
might be a clue to look into..

I am getting low voltage to my solenoid from this wire. No more than 8
volts. It will not even make the solenoid work to start my car. I am
guessing my voltage regulator is bad.

turruben says:

Are you working on a model T Ford? The solenoid is attached to the starter.

kwgrid says:

replacement of the command wire. Nothing wrong with the solenoid. Please
advise.

OlBuckWalters says:

enjoy your ignorance fuckin douchemaster

OlBuckWalters says:

he pronounces it sellinoid, it should sound like soul-inoid

Ifcdav says:

Many times ive seen a simple dirty battery terminal connection cause people
to replace their starters erroneously. First thing u want to do is get a $5
battery terminal cleaner and clean and reattach ur battery cables. And if
you have those replacement bolt-on cable ends u especially need to take
those apart and clean them with a wire brush. Since car manufactures
started using steel and copper for battery cable ends corrosion on the
terminals is a bigger problem.

almightycaboose says:

one question can you start a car thru the solenoid

combatbm1 says:

Robert Arsenault says:

What if the solenoid is part of the starter? I have a 2011 Chevy HHR that
won’t start. Just goes “click” Battery tests good.

331sbf says:

It’s a starter relay not a solenoid.

jrdaad610 says:

Re: To all whose comments we “Smart

Markmeblablabla says:

the starter solenoid would have to be on the starter to be a solenoid, so i
think he might be right, a relay for a relay perhaps? I”m not an expert on
the issue

MissMandaG says:

I own an 86 Mustang Lx 3.8 V6. I keep having to replace the solenoid and
it’s getting irritating. What it does is since it got cold outside, its
when I turn the key to start it the solenoid gets stuck and keeps trying to
start the car (until I yank the battery cable or hit the solenoid with the
back of a screw driver). I’ve replaced the ignition, starter, and the
control module on the steering wheel column. Not sure what’s left, but
wiring. Any suggestions???

KINGCALLO says:

Mine is broken on my motorcycle gives power when i poke it, wires are tight

Bushougoma says:

@saltydog78 Set the meter to DC volts place the positive lead on the
command wire and the negative lead to the car body or battery negative.
