In most cases, the reasons you would want to remove the alternator would be because the unit is defective and you would like to replace and re-install with a new one, either a new / used genuine OEM or aftermarket parts.

Removal and replacement of alternator in Hyundai Sonata is quite tricky, but the trickiest part involved removing the serpentine belt. The gap between the tensioner bolt and the body in so narrow that you would need a special tool such as a serpentine belt removal tool with 17mm crow foot flare socket or low profile nano socket or a zero offset box end aviation spanner.

We have a separate full-length dedicated video designed to show you how to remove the serpentine belt on YF Sonata, and the tool (s) you will need in order to remove the serpentine belt. Here’s the link to that video:

There are many tools you could buy from Amazon, local auto hardware, home improvement store other online retailers, but the best tools are Extra Long Zero Degree Offset Box End Aviation Spanner sets. The popular brands are Genius, Gear Drive, BullTools SATA, Horusdy, Delihom, EZARC and more.

We actually purchased a set of EZARC zero degree offset Metric Combination Aviation Spanner which comes in 8mm to 19mm. That tool review video is here if you’re interested to watch: https://youtu.be/1fps9AW4G2c

This car is Uncle Lan’s 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. He is guest star in this video. Uncle Lan is instrumental in how Aiman started recording, making and producing DIY auto repair and how to fix it videos on his youtube channel. Aiman’s first video was fixing front strut and rear suspension on his 2001 green Honda Civic. He was only 9 years old at that time. Obviously, Aiman’s auto repair videos are mostly designed for entertainment purposes. Aiman is not a professional and not a certified ASE mechanic. If you’re looking for instructions or steps on how to fix or diagnose problems with your car, SUV, minivan or vehicle repair, how to remove, replace or install parts, you should always watch more than just 1 videos. The videos should always be used only as a guide. Manufacturers always recommend using genuine OEM parts but sometimes cheaper aftermarket can be as good as the originals.

Hi Aiman, I watched your videos about "burping" the coolant system on a 2004-2009 Prius and after following your "manually filling" video, I'm trying to jump my pump and I have set my multimeter properly and I removed the correct relay, however, I don't hear the pump engage at all. Is my pump dead, must the vehicle be in "inspection mode," or am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance for your reply.
