like man its gotta be easier way, so i with no knowledge on a sonata bulb, i took the bulb out without having to take out the assembly or loosening the screws to take out the pin, took me 5 minutes while his way following this video took him 30 minutes ++, im sorry but this video is not very good, its ok if you want to take this route but we had to get going faster than that

SiTiNo187 says:

I don’t own a hyundai, i own a accord and i have changed my bulbs easily, but its funny that my cousin now owns a 06 sonata and he saw this video to replace his bulb he came to my house to replace it using his tools and my tools and i didn’t know he was trying to take the whole assembly off, after about 30 minutes i go outside and he’s still trying to take off that 3rd bolt lol, i was like “yo what are you doing” he explained how he saw this exact video so he knew what he was doing, lol, i was..

I hate the hoanday sonata car because its verey hard haaaaaard car not like honda toyota

TheNickypunjaban says:

Need not to remove hole light even need not to unscrew lock it is very lenthy. Just open cap and unplug bulb then inlock and replace it. Two minut job. !!!!!!!!!

955701 says:

Okay, now I know you don’t have to. Took four minutes (timed it) by unscrewing the cover on the back, pushing the clip in and down towards the ground, then replacing the bulb and working backwards to put it back together again.

955701 says:

I don’t think you have to take the entire housing off.

royuncg2 says:

I just tried this method and Tim is right…this way took about 3 minutes. The first two times I changed the bulb, I took out the entire Assembly which took an hour total

comtec76 says:

Thanks for the video. Looks easier than in practice. Now I know why some repair shops charge around $100 to replace the bulb. The clip is a royal pain reinstalling.

Andrew Landerholm says:

First off, great video. While I have a different year V-4 most of the steps were identical. There is one major discrepancy, however. This must be due to the different model, but there is a fourth bolt. All of you who thought the third bolt was hard to find this one, it faces the same direction as the headlights. You must use the extension in your socket set to reach it. Use your owners manual: it provides detailed instructions with illustrations. But all the yellow arrows are screws.

douell0001 says:

studpuppy69 — I appreciate the effort and spirit behind this video. But, like several of the posters here, I too was frustrated in first locating the third bolt, then removing it. With the headlamp assembly still in place, I was able to unscrew the cap and easily access the low-beam bulb to replace it. It took all of two minutes.

Tim Stone says:

You don’t need to take the whole assembly out. This is overkill. Also, you don’t remove the wire holding the light in place…you push in on it and it swings away. No need to find the elusive third bolt, not to mention the first two. Funny.

guitargrapher says:

I found out that I had my headlight out and I tried to change it myself, I couldn’t figure out how to do it until this video. Thanks man! You really saved me…

Having done both low beams and the left high beam on my ’07 (identical to ’06) in the last four days, I recommend the no-tools method shown in the response by dubmann. The method used in this video, however, might be worth using on the right-side low beam; the washer fluid reservoir neck is severely in the way on that side. Removing the battery makes the left-side low beam much easier using dubmann’s method.

studpuppy69 says:

Only an idiot would post a response like this. I take it you couldn’t do it yourself, so you come watch my video to replace your bulbs and bitch about it because you wasted your time. Who’s the idiot now?

Will Langston says:

Used your video to familiarize myself with changing the bulbs. I had one go out and decided to change both. The third bolt on the driver side was brutal, yet got it done. I did not have to use a screwdriver for the bulb springs. Once the bolts were out, the entire process took less than 3 minutes for each bulb. Thanks for posting this useful video.

isyt1953 says:

Good info., but if I can offer a suggestion, next time have someone else film you while you do this work. There is just too much shaking of the camera..Thanks

outlawbawla says:

Only an idiot would replace the bulbs like this. Please take down this video before you waste anyone else’s time. A quicker and far easier method is available on youtube posted by dubmann.

Deci5erME says:

Thank you very much for your help! I was stuck on the stupid spring after trying to change the light bulb from another tutorial video. I’m glad the spring was as simple as you made it to be! I now have two working headlights! Thank you!

Damon Asher says:

Thanks for this. It was very helpful – successfully replaced the bulb tonight. As a hint to anyone else, the bolt is 13/32″. Don’t bother if you don’t have the right head for your ratchet!

Frederick Helfrich says:

Nice video, very helpful for my ’07 as the parts are identical. Two shortcut: First, the “3rd” bolt on the inside may be more easily removed using a 1/4″ ratchet with a 10mm deep socket. Easier to fit in the cavity. Second, the clip holding the bulb into place DOES NOT need to be removed. Loosen the one at the hinge (left side on the video) and flip the clip up out of the way after pushing the open end under the plate held by the other screw. Thanks very much for posting the video!

nikki201207 says:

how do you adjust the beams. i just bought a used 2006 in perfect condition but the lights are WAY low. where are the adjustment bolts?

dukem811 says:

THANKS for the video, I have a 2004, I couldn’t figure out how to get the damn bracket back on, UGH!

franc201 says:

If you have 2009 Sonata NF or 2010 there is NO THIRD BOLT, only two on the top. Also, if you are replacing low beam light bulb, there is NO SPRING at all, light bulb just needs to be unscrewed slightly (90 degrees) not more an it will pop out on its own. I just spent 2hrs trying to find that 3rd bolt and after giving up I just decided to rip the whole light assembly out, and once I did it there was no sign of that bolt. Wish someone else had had posted this before me! 🙂

rocketpress says:

Both of my low beams went out at the same time. I had to drive with high beams home. It wasn’t a fuse. Just bad luck that both went at the same time. NOTE: This video is wrong. Go instead to “Change Headlight ’06 Hyundai Sonata; No Tools Required,” which is way simpler. Also worked on my 2007 model.

agpn65 says:

Thanks for the video. Saved me a trip to the dealer, not to mention $. Some methods show changing the bulb without removing the whole assembly. I don’t have that kind of room, under the hood. The screws for the spring clip didn’t need loosening though. Thanks again for the help. Much appreciated!

latimer9 says:

You don’t need to remove the whole assembly to replace the bulb. I just did mine 3 minutes ago with no tools, just take off the cap while the assembly is bolted in, unplug the bulb, the wire spring that holds it in is designed to pop out on one side, no un-screwing necessary. slide the old bulb out, the new bulb in, pop the wire spring back in place, plug the fuse back in, and throw the cap back on. The whole thing took me literally 30 seconds for both lights.

Chris Mil says:

Thanks a bunch. I would not have been able 2 do this ish without your help!!!!! Why did Hyundai make this soooooo annoying! Uggghhh.

eromacque says:

Any idea at ALL what could cause BOTH low beams on a 2008 Sonata to stop working? DRLs work. High beams work. Fuses are good. with none blown. Swapped relays between high and low beams and high beams still work, so I know the relay’s good. Help!

studpuppy69 says:

Watch the video, you will see a picture(it will show it for several seconds) with a ratchet on it, that is the bolt! The ratchet is over the bolt. You can’t miss it once you see it. The ratchet I have barely turns it, it takes awhile to get it out but it will come out. Try it again, you will have head lights burn out again, trust me on that. The bulbs don’t last long.

milwmike08 says:

I tried your method but gave up in frustration. I couldn’t find that third bolt, there are several that I thought it could be. After several attempts with my cheapo ratchet set I nearly screamed F*CK!!!!! I because it wouldn’t fit properly. watched Dubman’s video and was able to replace the headlight using his method it is kinda tricky though. I also wouldn’t recommend removing the spring clip. Maybe you could repost a vid showing where that third bolt is. Thanks for posting I appreciate it.

Indensity says:

Thanks for the video because I learned alot about my car. However, you don’t have to do all of this lol The whole removing the bolts and screws are a waste of time. Just open the hood, twist of the cap, unhook that spring, take out the bulb, replace the bulb. You do have to do it by feel but it is a lot easier than taking out the entire head light cabinet.

Rob Scarber says:

Glad I didn’t remove the philips screws to release the bulb spring as this video directs- pushing in (towards the front of the car) on the spring releases it, so that it easily swings away, then the bulb slips right out. Hope nobody else tries to dismantle their headlamp assembly, as this is an epic waste of time.

studpuppy69 says:

I tried to do change them as seen in the video response. It was an epic fail. I’ll stick to this way.

hxhky says:

Thakns for the video, but 2 things are wrong: you dont need to remove the 3 bolts, you dont need to remove the spring. see this video

Aaron Brown says:

Thanks for posting this buddy!

J Ecris says:

Thank you! Couldn’t get that accursed little spring back on properly. The other instructions around the web (and in the manual) are inadequate.

Lot2learn says:

Yes, I saw that video only after I had seen yours and performed the install. I suppose if I had to do it again I might try the “closed” technique first and if it didn’t work I could always pull the capsule out. But personally, I don’t like to work blind and in tight spaces – seeing what I’m doing tends to make the work easier. 😉

studpuppy69 says:

YW, there is a vid response of someone doing it just by removing the clip. The manual says pull the capsule out. The only thing is there is no room to get a screw driver in there, or I would have done that. If that springs pops out with out tension the bulb is probably not in there snug and moves around, I’ll stick to this way.

Lot2learn says:

Perfect! Thanks so much for this video! Took me about 10 minutes. The hardest part was figuring out I needed a 10mm socket wrench (I kept trying my US sizes until it finally dawned on me to break out my metrics) and then getting that little clip back in place took me about a minute to figure out the orientation. Again – thank you for posting!

studpuppy69 says:

SLOW turns it will come out. A socket will work it might not fit snug but it will turn slowly, it will slowly come of when its loose enough just use your fingers. You can use a wrench too, a wrench is small and may work better just takes a little longer. You will get it off, keep trying. Look to right of your screen, there is a video by dubman he shows just removing the clip without taking off the head lights. What ever you feel comfortable with.

allenartsmedia says:

How do you get the third bolt out? I’m going crazy. The passenger side looks even more inaccessible.

mumbleora says:

Great instructions!!

prijedor83 says:

thank you for the video. i would have never seen that third bolt

dartinart says:

Thanks. Great filming captured all important details. Great job! I tried it without removing the entire light but I couldn’t figure out that spring up until I saw your vid.
