Engine Air Filter Replacement [EASY] – Hyundai Elantra – 2017 / 2018 – How to / DIY

Do you want to make your Engine Struggle to breath? Well, that is exactly what happens when you don’t change your vehicle’s engine air filter. How? Ever try drinking through a pinched straw and how difficult it is to do that? That is what your car’s engine is going through when it has to breathe air through a clogged air filter.

The gasoline engine on your 2017 Hyundai Elantra / 2018 Hyundai Elantra like every other internal combustion engine needs air to efficiently burn the fuel.
It can’t just breathe the air from the atmosphere directly because the air is full of dirt, dust, moisture and other pollutants. You definitely don’t want any of these to get in your engine. The air needs to be filtered. That is where the engine air filter comes in the picture. Engine air filter filters the air before it is used inside the engine.

Engine air replacement is a quick 3-4 minute process that you can easily perform at home without any tools whatsoever. A process that would cost you easily $50 in labor at your local dealership / mechanic shop in addition to the time spend and the inconvenience of calling and scheduling an appointment and taking time out of your schedule to go it replaced.

This video will show you how to perform an engine air filter replacement on your 2017 Hyundai Elantra / 2018 Hyundai Elantra in a detailed step-by-step way.

1) 00:31 Ensure the vehicle is parked and engine is turned off.

2) 00:35 Open the hood. Hood release lever is inside by where the driver’s left foot rests. Pull it lightly.

3) 00:45 Go around to the front of the car. Now we release the hood safety latch (secondary latch). It is right on top of where the Hyundai “H” logo is. Put a couple fingers in there and lift the lever up slightly. Open the hood. This vehicle needs a prop rod to secure the hood in place. The prop rod has a yellow end to it. Put it in the appropriate slot (marked by an arrow) in the hood and secure the hood in place.

4) 01:18 Locate the engine air filter housing. When you are facing the vehicle, it should be on your right side. Right in front of the battery.

5) 01:26 The engine air filter is secure in the housing by a cover which itself is secured by 2 clips on the right side of the cover. Undo the 2 metal clips. Now slide the cover out of the 2 tabs on the left side of the cover.

6) 02:02 Take the engine air filter out. If it looks dirty, then it needs to be replaced. Get a new filter. Before you put the new filter in compare its size to the old filter for a quick sanity check. It should be the exact same size. Reinsert the filter back in position. Clean side is upside and dirty side is downside.

7) 02:46 Put the cover in place and ensure it slides in both the tabs. Now clip the metal clips back on.

8) 03:23 Close the hood

Ty for the video!

A question, do you know where is the engine number in this model?

Virar Automotive says:

If you mainly drive your Elantra on dirt roads or where there are a lot of pollutants in the air, you have to replace your engine air filter more often!
