Change Headlight ’06 Hyundai Sonata; No Tools Required

I lost the spring clip on mine trying to do this. After a lot of frustration I figured it out and would like to share it with you.

Thanks again:) I referred back to your video when I had to change out my right bulb:D What a gem you are!!!!

Danna Darty says:

Thank you!! Saved me about $40:)

Ryan Heffernan says:

The same as just about everybody elses comments. Much easier and quicker than the other vids. Works on the 2005 Elantra as well. Thanks!

BladeOfDragon says:

Oh man awesome, so much better and faster than the other vid i watched. This saved me from ruining my afternoon! Thanks so much.

PhoenixAshes says:

Vid helped a lot. I didn’t have a socket to fit the screw on the back of the housing so doing it tool without tools was key. Thanks dude.

dergible says:

Whish I had watched this BEFORE I stupidly unscrewed the spring clip. Had to take the other headlight apart to see how it went back together. 30 minute project.. duh!

shezza1776 says:

Took all of five minutes, and the majority of the time was spent trying to maneuver adult-sized hands into the the crowded space under the hood where the low beam bulb is located. WAAAAY better than trying to remove the entire headlight assembly. Thanks for sharing this video! Your step-by-step was very helpful.

Beny Ben says:

So, after seeing this video and reading this comment about losing the pin, I simply tied some dental floss (I’m sure other methods would work) around the pin before trying to remove it. It worked like a charm! I didn’t lose the pin, and the whole process took me less than 5 minutes. Thanks Dubman and amborsiabt!

mmlarche says:

Thank you for this video! I don’t think I’d have figured the headlight out without it.

dubmann says:

I am not a mechanic, so don’t take this as trained advice. All I can tell you is try the other side of the clip or push harder. It pushes toward the center and then releases. I’m not really sure what else to tell you. Good Luck.

MrBreez68 says:

That clip is driving me crazy! It does not release as easily as its shown in the video. Any suggestions?

dubmann says:

That was the side I lost. I lucked out because it had gotten caught in the cowling in front of the wheel well. I tapped at the plastic and heard it bouncing around. This was 2 weeks after I thought it was lost. You might want to check there. Good luck, glad the video helped.

AmbrosiaB says:

Perfect! Thank you soo much for posting this! Worked like a charm. They should come up with a better solution than the freaking clip!! I just wish I found this video before I lost the clip on the headlight of the passenger side 🙁

ken306809 says:

thanks , this was great . i did’nt have to take the whole light fixture out . dealing with the clip was a little rough but i got it .

croxzy1 says:

that black thing is hard to remove i thought i was going to break the bulb doing it.

Eric Paquin says:

you cant take the bolt(s) holding the tank and shift it out of the way even a little? Will have to have a look but mine is an 07 so could be slightly different. Need to know now as I really want to change to the brighter white bulbs esp for where I live the cleaner white will be better to see out in the middle of no where-ville.

lharvill says:

(Part 2) I offer this advice for those who come here after me. The high beams are very easy to do (in terms of room to maneuver your arms/hands/fingers), and the left low beam is a thousand times easier if you simply remove the battery (3 bolts, a 5 min job). The right low beam is a pain in the you-know-what because you can’t get the washer fluid reservoir neck out of the way.

lharvill says:

(Part 1) I’ve done both low beams and the left high beam on my ’07 (’06-’08 are identical for this job) in the last four days. I generally found it easier to do the job the way it’s done in this video, rather than the way shown in the other Sonata headlight video on here.

upinmytree1 says:

dubmann…thanks !!! did both low beams at lunch today in my suit and tie in about 5 minutes in the parking lot of the auto parts supply store…still had time to grab a sandwich.

32483dhanson says:

thanks, so easy after your demonstration

Karl F says:

THANKS Dubman! That was easy as pie. Snap 123! I first saw the how to video by studpuppy69 titled “head light replacement 2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6” and I appreciate his efforts. it was done as manual states, HOWEVER doing it Dubman’s way was SO much easier. No wrenches needed, no hard bolts to unscrew at an 1/8 at a time with deep metric sockets, simply unscrew cap, remove plug, remove clip and replace bulb, Thanks again!!! Took 5 minutes for 2 bulbs replaced

Samps432 says:

thank you so much! that was so much easier then what the manual said

johnmarquart says:

Thank You so much! After watching your video one time I was able to successfully accomplish this task in less than 2 minutes. And can you believe the Hyundai dealer wanted 15 minutes to do this?

69Davidsmith says:

Quick and easy !! Tks !! 🙂

Doron Shoham says:

Thanks for saving me time and money. Kinda miss my camry where even someone like me with two left hands can replace a light balb with their eyes closed

Jack Kaufmann says:

Worked like a wet dream

samicakesnyc1 says:

Freaking Awwwweeessome!! I need u to now make a video demonstrating everything else I can do myself “thusly” in such a quick and efficient manner!! Did I mention U ROCK?! thanks for saving me some bucks!

10jar8 says:

I just changed the low beam using this same procedure and it took me about 1 minute (seriously). Thanks so much; I had already tried (unsuccessfully) to take the whole headlight out. Thanks again!

Ciberpuppi says:

Wow! I was prepared to remove the entire light as shown in the owner’s manual before I found your video. Even with stopping repeatedly to refer to the video and running back to my garage, this took only about 10-12 minutes! The low beam is a little more difficult to see and manipulate, but if you’re careful, this is a much quicker way to change the bulb.

Antoinette D says:

This was an excellent video in its accuracy and visual. I changed mine in less than 3 minutes. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!

Antoinette

arunnair456 says:

I took the high beam out thinking its the low bean looking at this video. Because my low beam was already bad, I touched the bulb with bare hands and now i think my beam might have been ruined. Very false video.

franc201 says:

If you have 2009 Sonata NF or 2010 there is NO THIRD BOLT, only two on the top. Also, if you are replacing low beam light bulb, there is NO SPRING at all, light bulb just needs to be unscrewed slightly (90 degrees) not more an it will pop out on its own. I just spent 2hrs trying to find that 3rd bolt and after giving up I just decided to rip the whole light assembly out, and once I did it there was no sign of that bolt. Wish someone else had had posted this before me! 🙂

rocketpress says:

This also worked on my 2007 Sonata. Thank you. It was easy. Tight space and my hands barely fit in there, but beats paying a garage. Took about 10 minutes total of fiddling around. If I had smaller hands, this could be done in 2 minutes.

Philip Dacey says:

Thanks for the video! This was very helpful to me in replacing my low beam. I appreciate it. The trickiest part was getting the spring to pop out. Good explanation on the video. Mine is an 07 Sonata and this video worked like a charm. Thanks again

Bob Weeks says:

For the low beam there’s a lot less visibility and maneuvering room. Make sure you notice the spring clip has a “handle” on one side, and it’s the different side from shown in this video. Also, because of lack of room to maneuver, it’s difficult to keep the clip in proper position as you insert the new bulb. Aside from this, it’s easy to do.

dubmann says:

No this is not a high/low bulb. This video is of the passenger high beam, (I originally thought it was the low). The low beam bulb is more toward the fender of the car. It is just a slightly smaller cap. The procedure is still the same.

vltnwecy says:

Thanks but the bulb you have in your video include both the hi and low beams in one bulb unit?

MyHurtlocker says:

thank you ,i wish you post more videos

NinjaMang says:

Thank you so much for posting this! Helped 100%!

CheckOutGuitarGeorge says:

Thank you so much dubmann. I was struggling for about 10 minutes with this and I saw the other video where the person took the entire headlight assembly apart and I thought “No Way!” I saw your link in that YouTube post. You saved me valuable time. Very much appreciated. Thank You!
