Robert El-Adham says:

Hint: don’t watch the fluid drain out- get the new axle back into the
trans quickly to avoid more leakage.

dougfresh425 says:

so I can do all of this with just popping the ball joint off?

Don Byrum says:

I just fixed my parents car. Great video! Thank you for putting it out.

buddyb007 says:

started on this same job last night…..glad i found the video today….i
took top of spindle off though, didnt want to mess up that ball joint boot

Nicholas Wieland says:

Replace the whole arm, check to see if the arm is rusted. Hyundai did a
silent recall on them. They rust out and fail (arms) . Because the ball
joint comes in the arm you might get them for free.

beachnative420 says:

Thanks so much for posting this video. I have 2001 Elantra and a repair
shop wanted $600 another $290. I found the parts for $59 each for each
axle. One thing when getting the parts is they ask if you have antilock
brakes, how do you tell? I live pay check to paycheck and this will save me
money I don’t have, Thanks a million!

WhoSaidTyler says:

@buddyb007 Yes it’s tough to get around that boot.

footeze226 says:

Should YOU GREASe ALL the other joints that get exposed ?

Tyler Vest says:

Do you remember where you ordered your axles from? If so could you give me
the website

Dwight Roland-Witherspoon says:

well if someone(like me) didn’t know how to do it And was trying to learn
threw YOUR video then takeit from the person watching it yes that was a
very important part of the video. I’m just saying take it from your
viewers, if somebody says it was a very informative part of your video I
think you should take that into consideration next time you make 1.

WhoSaidTyler says:

Sometimes you really have to wham on it to get them to break loose. One
thing you can do is a get a long bar and carefully position it where you
can pry downward on the lower control arm. At the same time, another person
can use the balljoint separator on it. It shouldn’t stand up to that very
long.

WhoSaidTyler says:

There’s not enough difference in those two weights of oil to make any
difference. It sounds as if your noise might be related to motor mounts
rather than splines on the axles. I would keep an eye on it and see if it
gets any worse.

whoodiestyle says:

Thanks so much I did both axles without a hitch I did the second side in 13
mins but I need to replace the lower ball joint in the future cause its
worn out so I’ll make a video of it

Burnz Alto says:

daing..hard to understained yer acceint cowboy..

whoodiestyle says:

Ok great thanks I’m gonna do my girlfriends accent so I’m sure it’s
relatively similar setup. Great video

WhoSaidTyler says:

Check the lower control arm bushings while you are in there. If they are
worn out you can usually buy the entire arm with ball joint for a
reasonable sum. If you live in the snow belt the lower control arms were
prone to rusting, so be advised.

beachnative420 says:

@WhoSaidTyler yeah I used a little less than 2 quarts of 75W90..My
neighbor’s son has the same car and that same problem. If he asks me I’ll
show him your video and loan him my impact set. That 32mm came off easy.
…………..Now I have a piece of cardboard under the car for tonight to
make sure she doesn’t leak…… Now I have to ask seeing all of your
uploaded videos , have you ever taken out a back windshield? I’m in Florida
near Cocoa Beach and I got a rust problem.

WhoSaidTyler says:

@footeze226 grease anything that has a fitting. Most components on these
are non-servicable, greased for life or until the boot breaks.

stechexpress says:

Thanks for the video! I have a question. I just replaced my axles and since
I had everything apart I decided to replace nearly everything (ball joints,
wheel bearings, stabilizer bars, etc.). I don’t know if my issue is the
axles I bought but when I start from 1st gear (and shift in an gear) I hear
a “tick/click” (most likely the spline). My owners manual and repair guide
both said to use 75W85. You recommend using 75W90. Could this be my issue?
Any advise would be appreciated!

WhoSaidTyler says:

@dwight49120 No, that’s NOT the most informative part of it by far. Anyway,
I said “pry the axle out of the tranaxle”…do you need your hand held the
entire way? Then, you just push the new axle back in the way the old one
came out.

WhoSaidTyler says:

@beachnative420 The easiest ways to tell if the car has ABS are to watch
the dash when you start the car and observe whether there is an ABS light,
or, when you get the front wheels off, see whether EACH side has the
trigger wheel at the outside end of the axle. They all appear to have ONE,
on the right front axle, but my car lacks ABS and had no other trigger
wheels. The good news is that the ABS axles appear to work fine in Elantras
that do not have ABS. That’s what I used in mine.

Mainbwana says:

Do you have a video on how to remove the ball joint from this car? I am
stuck at removing the ball joint and you skipped on showing the step. Mine
is not budging for anybody.

Matthew Gallaher says:

Ok i replaced both axles the passenger side is fine but the driver side
when im driving and going to the right it sounds like a rubbing noise or
something and it didnt do this before with the original could it just be
that i got a bad axle when i bought the 2 its wierd because when turning
left its fine no noise or anything

tyler sargent says:

Is it the same with a 2003?

footeze226 says:

@dwight49120 watch PART 1 DUH !!!!!

WhoSaidTyler says:

I got them from a local parts store. eBay is cheaper a lot of the time, so
check there too.

davidregina1 says:

Thanks buddy that’s what I was looking for. I pretty sue it gonna help me
ur video. Pleas post anohter video when ever u fixed your hyndai elantra.
thanks more

WhoSaidTyler says:

Yes. It takes some careful prying to get it out and some careful tapping
with a soft hammer to get it back in but no other action needed regarding
the snap-ring.

WhoSaidTyler says:

@hp11208 no, it slips off.

jaramima says:

Thanks a lot, I think I can do this. You took the mystique out of it for
me. Cheers.
