2012 Hyundai Elantra Exhaust Rattle FIX! | DIY + EASY

Exhaust rattling in the engine bay? It may be the head shield on the exhaust manifold! I show you a quick easy fix. This is NOT a proper fix or best practice.

I had some spare washers and gasket maker lying around and I wanted to get rid of a terrible exhaust rattle.

This video also shows how to unplug the O2 sensor without breaking it.

Could you tell me if this sounds like a rattling heat shield? Comes from engine compartment at around 1000-2000 rpm. https://youtu.be/jDG7GrDuCbw Hyundai Elantra 2011

Jesse Dermo says:

Do you have a video of the sound? It only happens when lightly accelerating and when idling but it’s coming from the engine other then that no problems with the car driving it and no engine lights

Dude, you deserve a beer!!! I have a 2013 Hyundai Accent that has a rattle/pinging that sound just like the old valve lifter rattle as it only happens in light acceleration around 30MPH and 50MPH. I thought the rattle had something to do with "spark knock," i.e. timing too far advance, fuel, or spark plug issue. Then I started looking through YouTube for other causes of rattle and found your clip. I put my car on jacks and went underneath to first check all heat shields by banging on them and then this engine exhaust shield and sure enough it was loose and rattling!!
Thanks much!!
