if my v8 nlow light blue smoke only when i rev it after the engine gets
warm is it because of the valve seals or piston rings?
Shouldnt each seal be oiled first before installing it ?
Good video, I especially like the tip on using a magnet to remove the
keepers. The only step missing in all this is how you find TDC of each
piston. I’ve used a dial indicator on no. 1 to confirm timing accuracy, but
it’s not designed for that purpose and it’s a huge PITA. I wouldn’t even
think about doing it on every cylinder. What’s your technique?
120psi
Use a plastic seal guide to protect the new seals, the tip of the valve and
keeper grooves can get jagged or razor sharp…
HOW MUCH AIR PRESSURE
My car smokes once its hot, on start up and when you rev it. But when the
car is cold doesn’t smoke at all?
I have been thinking of doing this job to my 1985 300zx valve seals
cause the car blows blue smoke when it warms up . What type of ( psi )
air compressor
would be safe to use will a pancake air compressor 3 gal 100psi from harbor
freight
be OK ? its about $59.99
I have this same need, and this video pretty much told me exactly which
tool to use, got that one, and how it’s done. I had been told it was
necessary to remove intake manifold, this video disproves that. Albeit,
the left side two rear cylinders are a long reach, it seems by the time you
get to that part, you should be getting pretty good with the Spring
Compressor Assembly tool. Great video for this purpose.
That is so simple compared to OHC engine.
How much would a job like this cost at a shop?
Thank for that video that good help
what is the psi on the compressor?
hi dwayne, does it matter what p.s.i. you have on the air hose, i dont
wanna blow something out or not enough pressure and the valve fall in the
cylinder well. do you just leave the air pressure at max about 150 psi?
Hey, buddy, I don’t mind coherent, intelligent dissent, I am not afraid of
being told I was wrong or misguided or that I made a mistake, however I DO
mind being insulted for no reason whatsoever, especially since the basis
for doing so is either non-existent or flimsy at best! I refuse to respond
to you in kind, even though you deserve it!
Nice.
how much psi air do i put on a 01 honda civic 1.7 engine
still a peice of shit engine
Gd job
@makoshark26. Not to bash or give these guys a hard time but lectricshave
makes a valid point. I’m sure these guys no to be carful with that crowbar
but some people that aren’t too bright might not. Also, you diffidently
don’t want to be dropping anything into the engine, a rag isn’t a bad idea.
The tops of those valves are going to be flattened and a little marred up,
hence the reason for covering them up when installing the seals. Wouldn’t
want to tear up the new ones putting them on, or risk
how do you tell when the piston is all the way up? doing this job on a 460
soon
Typically how much does a job like this cost.
@ZeroBahamutxRR : That would make sense. I’ll definitely look into it!
Thank you.
Great explanation!
I have a 1996 mustang gt with a 4.6 modular v8. When I go to replace my
valve seals will I have to set my valve lash and all of that? I do plan on
taking the heads off of the car.
Great video, very clear and concise directions and tips. Thank you I was
worried it was going to be more involved than it actually is. With help
from a mechanic friend i’m planning on tackling this later in the week.
