Disconnect the battery. Raise the vehicle. Remove the left front tire. Remove the left front wheelhouse.
Then unplug the left front wheel sensor. Remove the starter wires. Remove the knock sensor. Remove the ground cable from the block.
Then loosen the wire harness from the looms for access.
Unbolt the stater mounting bolts. Free the starter front the bell housing. Slide the starter toward the front of the vehicle.
Drop it vertically down in front of the motor mount. Then rotate it as needed, to tilt the starter and remove it backwards under the frame.
Reverse the process as shown in the video.

Thanks for this video, my starter just went out in my 06 Hummer and the last video I watched was seriously labor intense, this way seems so much easier!
Hi Troy thanks for the video. This won’t work for me cause I have an H3 Alpha. Have you done a starter on an Alpha?
What year is that hummer and did you ever have any valve issues , I wanna get one but I've been reading lots of bad engine issues and transmission issues.
Worked like a charm, thanks
Thank you but when bench tested the old one it worked. I’m glad I got it out you way.
Warning that nut in the back be prepared for it thank you great video
Troy I cannot thank you enough for this video. You saved me so much time. I have the same color and package of the Hummer in your video. The nut on the backside was the interesting part. I went ahead and ran a test wire too. My dad ran an automotive shop for 42 years and retired about 10 years ago. He was my go to when I had questions and was always telling me how specialty tools from Snap On and Mac saved him time on jobs. It’s great to have guys on here that show instructional videos to help people.
Excellent video, saved me a lot of time and effort and money. Thank you.
Got it out pretty quick, Hardest part was the nut in back but the tips about the socket and sticky goop was great advice! Thanks
After you figured out all the hard stuff it was not bad at all. Thank you.
I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THIS! Thank you so much for showing the easy way to install this starter. I have to replace mine and I know they are a real pain. God bless you.
Thanks bro same problems
