How to replace an O2 Sensor and save money.

I show you how to replace your O2 Sensor. This is being performed on a 1997 Chevy Tahoe. Automotive oxygen sensors, colloquially known as O2 sensors, make mo…

Gary Caldwell says:

First, you can go get free code reading at any parts store (e.g. Oreilly,
Autozone, Advance). Buying an O2 that you have to splice is not practicle,
by the time it takes to splice, and get connectors and tape.

@unknownaccount99 I see bosch products fail,I work as a mechanic.Bosch’s
spark plugs cause missfires in Chrysler products including GM.

Ti Berihun says:

@SenorDennis is it the same car?

Mike Smith says:

no need to buy a code reader–either take it to a auto parts store to get
the codes..my friendly mechanic will read my codes with his $700 reader for
free..fyi

Would faulty O2 sensor be reason for P0171 AND P0174 to come on for my 2000
Ford Explorer? I have not indication that anything is wrong with the car
other than the check engine light is on and I am getting these codes.

ignition cables

AGStylZ says:

If your car has two catalytic converters, there will be 4. If you have one,
there will be only two sensors. When checking your codes, match these up.
Bank 1 (possibly right cat.converter if you have two. If you have ONE, you
will only see Bank1), Bank 2 (possibly left cat.co). Sensor 1
(upstream/pre/front o2 sensor), Sensor 2 (downstream/post/rear o2 sensor).

Annii Sprinkle says:

@wafrederick I very much doubt Bosch makes junk. Bosch actually invented
the lambda sensor in 1976.

silverdiaz7 says:

how do ou know when its time to replace the sensor?

Barb Crosby says:

I have a 2006 Honda Pilot EX and the check engine light followed by the
VTM-4 light came on. I took to dealer (had an oil change and the TM fluid
changed) They had it on the scanner and could find NOTHING WRONG…so they
RESET it…but the lights are coming back on – any ideas on what I should
be looking in to?

Ga129 says:

Thanks man, just bought two new sensors today that come with wires, gonna
put them im soon, it’ll be hard getting under my 97 camaro so wish me luck,
you saved me a great deal of time and money

haywardsdave says:

They do make off set O2 removal tools now cos access to these sensors is
ALWAYS limited. You have to be very careful spraying WD40 around the sensor
and VERY careful not to get it on the new sensor. Some sensors are take
readings from both the inside and outside of the exhaust You may want to
re-use the old sensor if the fault returns or do a voltage test using a
blow lamp so try not to cut the wires too short if you are re-using the
connector. Finally, make sure the crimps are heat resistant..

Thanks for sharing this useful info. Are these two suggestions good for
loosening any rusty item or specific to car parts?

Thanks for the video, I changed all 4 of my oxygen sensors on my 04 tahoe
just to be on the safe side!

does that effect, your car burning too much gas???

OBD Scanner or car computer scanner cost about 100 a 800 USD (according
sophistication level expensive models are able to check SRS “airbag”
status) before buy one check if your car have OBD or OBDC II OBD scanner is
useless in some car manufacturers (like Peugeot, Citroen or renault) =)

MrByaahh says:

will an o2 sensor cause my truck to sputter when accelerating? If not, I’m
stumped..replaced plugs, cap button, distributor itself, wires, fuel
filter, fuel pump..please help

Intensitalian says:

I disagree COMPLETELY. I don’t know a single person who can’t drive to Auto
Zone within 15=20 minutes…MUCH cheaper than a code reader even at today’s
gas prices.

ClarkW66 says:

That is very true. On my other truck I just purchased the OS with the
connector already installed and it was much easier and you don’t have to
worry about not getting the splice sealed up good. Thanks for your comment.

phillyflash43 says:

And autozone (and all the other shops with free testing) don’t have the
equipment for ealier model cars 🙁

spelunkerd says:

Good review, thanks.

hondaslave says:

i have a P0430 code…if my o2 sensor is bad -would it throw a code for
that too…..would a lazy sensor throw a code?

Jose Hinojosa says:

excellent love video

thechenz0 says:

would bad o2 sensors cause high idling and the motor to break up and be
very sluggish under throttle? also would it cause a car to not want to rev
past around 3500 rpm or so? if youve heard of symptoms like these and the
o2 being the culprit let me know asap

SenorDennis says:

@chuasmare22 I just today paid $200 at my local shop for them to replace an
oxygen sensor.

HD8Track says:

Try to avoid splicing into sensor wiring. Just spend the 20 bucks and get
the connector. Once those connections start to corrode and impede the
signal flow, you will have nothing but issues with power, fuel consumption,
and false codes.

ClarkW66 says:

Not everyone has an autozone near them.

ClarkW66 says:

@a1nall No, you have something else going on.

haywardsdave says:

Good point.. The fault code may give a clue or using a computer showing
live running data should give a better idea of how each sensor is
performing. Not all OBD2 compliant vehicles have that many sensors. Most
only have two..one each side of the Cat.
