You should have just taken the charger apart and mounted the coil under the plastic. That way it would be invisible. If you take the coil out of the plastic housing it will work through the plastic. Also getting a better wireless charger might work too. Samsung ones are the most powerful.
How long you been in California? I think you mentioned that you used to live in Texas?
Try the 3m 30# double sided tape. It holds perfectly. I used it for my phone holder which mounts to the side of the console. With the weight of the holder and my phone pulling on it, it has held up perfectly.
