this is a very cheap paint job for a low budget, if you are going to do
your car please don’t use this method. there are a lot more steps to make
it right, like the man have said it was a low budget job and i understand
why he can’t spent more time on sanding. thanks hacknpackshop for posting
the video, nice video !

Nostradamia says:

I really appreciate the video, and I learned a lot. Nevertheless, for my
purpose, I’ll sand the clear coat off with a 1500 grid. The surface I deal
with is small, the running board. And, the end result does not have to be
perfect for what I care. I have never done this before and hope it turns
well. I’ll sand with 1500 until I hit the paint. I think I can also use
thinner to help remove the clear. Then, I may spray a very light coat of
base. It should then be ready to receive the clear. I don’t think it will
peel with a small amount of base coat beneath. It should take me 2 hours,
including wet sanding up to 2500 & rubbing it in. Please, correct me if
what I am about to do is completely off.

Nice video.. This is really good for a DIY’er….. Only thing missing was
some videos outside without all the tape and paper.. thanks!

Stevie Wonder says:

his paint gun sounds sick, like it needs a good cleaning

Tim W says:

I love the part where you yell at your son for being “lazy,” then the guy
with the ZZ Top beard says “I need more time and we’re way over budget,”
and the part where you laugh crazily and get a beer from your “beer
assistant.” Great job!

Stevie Wonder says:

Ha! This is what we used to call “MOP n GLOW” or a “SPRAY n WASH” paint
job

andrew centrella says:

I’ve been talking like you for the past hour after watching this video.

Please, please say “Da Bears” for us?

Dennis Miles says:

The clear coat goes bad after 3 to 5 years, sand off only the clear coat
and shoot the whole car with gloss enamel and no more of that clear and the
enamel will last 20 years the manufacturer uses clear coat because it is
cheep and forces many to buy another car. One coat enamel lasts life of
body. chuck the clear, it is just planned obsolescence. If you are really
on a short budget, sand it with 220 paper, paint with high gloss oil base
(Enamel) exterior trim house paint, It works, apply with a foam brush, well
away from any trees or blowing dust. No masking tape needed and paint one
panel at a time when you have time. I repainted my old pickup in three days
at one hour each day and it looked very good. Also for rusted out holes
less than 3 inches in diameter use paper from a heavier grade brown paper
grocery bag, tear (Don’t cut as tearing tapers the edge in thickness) to
shape 1/2 inch larger all around that hole, wire brush away rust and paint
with rust-oleum in a can then while that is tacky paint the paper on one
side and place it over hole like a shaped patch, which it is, let dry and
apply another coat of primer next day don’t sand paper area, just edge of
primer. after it drys, apply the same paint as you’re using for rest of
car… The patch won’t deteriorate but it can be stabbed with a knife…

Hi, sanding spot on my black car clear coat, layer between paint and clear
coat turns white. Is there way to turn it back to transparent? Polishing
doesn’t help.Thank you.

Billy Bob says:

Not a show car, but great job for us who flip cars and are trying go make a
buck. I’ve used shops like yours to get my projects done, and have thought
that I should do my own, and your video makes it do able for the DIY guy.
Thanks for taking the time to share your talent, not everyone can do this
type of work. Great job.

pit32s says:

Thanks Sir, this was exactly what I wanted to see.

tiktak25 says:

How much base coat paint did you use on that job, pint?

Justin Caskey says:

Dude, I’d finish watching this video, but at 3 minutes in, I’m sick of
hearing the way this guy says “OH-KHAY?!” TALK ABOUT ANYTHING.

steven lewis says:

Gone good says:

I tell you what pork lips, quit eating bacon while you are video taping,
why don’t you wax your head and see what happens

Scott Hildenbrand says:

Here’s a tip for you. Piano wire (or a solid guitar string).. Instead of
messing around with a knife on that emblem, use the wire to basically saw
it off.. Make a handle on either side of the wire with wood, a bolt or
whatever. So long as they’re not old school stud emblems, it’ll cut through
the adhesive and pop it off.

funkyrimpler says:

Wayne Cosgrove says:

great job m8 i was looking for the low budget job and guess what you nailed
it from start to finish, i have a work car solely use to drive to work so
it sits outside all day and night so the paint work is shot lacquer peeling
and so forth, took it to a body shop and they wanted 4k to spray a corolla
or he said go buy a new car, well that’s obvious he didn’t want to do the
job, so i am taking it upon myself to do it, went to the auto shop and
bought some base coat, clear, primmer and paint gun for 300 bucks, what
have i got to lose 300 bucks and some time will see what happens lol.thanks
for the video it has helped me a lot on the steps to get me started.

Jeann Carlos Burelli Brandelli says:

Just shut up and do the work!!!!!

Sun Dog says:

Can’t believe I watched the whole video. Everytime I tried to leave, it
pulled me back in. You answered my question & the hassle of re clearing
the car 2 or 3 minutes into the video. The rest was gravy. Thanks
brother

Jesse Crandle says:

It’s an Intrepid, if anybody gave you flack for the job you did they need
to get over it. Obviously the paint that came from factory was s#!t and
that’s why it peeled, so this couldn’t possibly be any worse.

MrAlpineArcher says:

so you didnt really fix anything you just re painted it…

ytmm9055 says:

Good job!

caduceus33 says:

You gave some good info in this video. It was really good that you
explained the economics of the job, and doing a lower cost job for a
dealer. The idea that he would simply buy a more expensive car at the
auction if he had to pay more for the paint repair was important to to
know.

richard diaz says:

Love it I hope people can stop thinking everything they do I a 100 percent
a plus the car looks 100 @ better

JBL G says:

Remember people he said it ain’t no “show car” just a quick and cheaply
fix..The car came from some auction and when its all done some sucker gonna
buy it..

greek417 says:

Thanks for the video. I’ve got an 87 Toyota pickup and it is gonna look
alot better when I’m done

Kraals says:

Obviously not your first rodeo. :)

John Wilkins says:

Prabhjot Matharoo says:

nice & very detailed video. Answered most of the questions in my mind.

John Dawson says:

Thanks for the vid

Gerome Channell says:

First of all you should have used a …DA… direct air sander… with 400
wet or dry paper and you could have feathered edged the area out to be
refinished this is done all the time in my shop and 90% of the time it
works very well… just be very careful at putting to much pressure on
your DA sander or you will burn through into the base or paint… and it
will work for you almost every time.
