Joe Fazio says:

Compression fittings on brake lines is unsafe and can lead to sudden brake
failure!! this video should be removed.

Gary Ronan says:

As Paul Harvey used to say: Here’s the rest of the story! If you use
compression fittings designed for water pressure (about 60 psi max) and
they let go (as hydraulic pressure is much, much higher than water supply
system’s) and say, you hit someone, the insurance inspector will look over
your vehicle with A fine tooth comb. When your improper repair is
discovered YOU WILL BE SUED! AND YOU WILL LOSE!
It is false economy to repair A brake line in this manner. Get the proper
fittings or fix it with A flared line and Coupler’s, union’s, etc. Your
wallet will thank you.
As an aside, if you repair A brake line in this manner and then sell the
vehicle if the new owner’s get into an accident the insurance companies
will come looking for you! Again, you will be sued. Even, on the off chance
,you are found not liable you will get A nice, fat bill from your lawyer!
Better to do it right and avoid litigation.
I have A 96 Bronco with A bad ABS pump. These are not rebuildable and you
can’t find good ones in bone yard’s. New one’s are around 600 bucks from
Ford and the truck is only worth A grand so I use it rarely on nice, dry,
snow free day’s. When I am ready to part ways with this rig I will send it
to the bone yard as I have no desire to spend my days in A court of law
explaining to judges why I had A defective brake system!

FloridaFrank2010 says:

This video should be taken down as dangerous as it is. The only time this
would ever be acceptable would if you were in the woods, and ruptured a
brake line – and only to get you to a point where a tow truck could get
you..

Jacques Poirier says:

the best way to do an unreliable repair, then a brake line needs to be
patched, the best way is to replace it completely
in the market, there is million of brake line in different lenghts and
different fitting configuration and an assortment of different fittings
specially to install them
please, never use a compression fitting on an hydraulic brake system, it is
unreliable
a double flaring tool is dirt cheap in comparison of a failure causing an
accident.

Charlie Wilson says:

I agree with the many comments that say these plumbing type compression
fittings are not safe to use on the brake lines. They are not rated for
the very high pressure in a brake line. My Dad who was a really good
mechanic used them (Just didn’t know any better) and in my younger days I
also used them and luckily had no problems with them. But if you use them
you are taking a big chance. I later learned the truth about regular
compression fittings and brake lines and I thought this was pretty much
common knowledge these days. Although I have used compression fittings on
brake lines in the past I would never do it again.

EDWARD RANKIN says:

If one is going to use compression fittings to repair a brake line then one
must use compression fittings that are designed for brake lines. Only
Dorman has these fittings. They are black or gun metal gray and can
withstand over 5000psi. The ferrules on these compression fittings are
quite different that the ferrules that this gentleman is using in this
video. Still thought, it’s not that hard to repair a line using the proper
flare fittings. Many auto parts store rent flaring tools and the counter
person can advise which fittings and adapters that you would need to do the
job. Just have a plan before starting the job.

G.V. Mout says:

THE MANUFACTURER DOES NOT RECOMMEND THOSE FITTINGS FOR BRAKES

Jeremiah Johnson says:

I saw handicap plates what you trying kill granny

Astro Scope says:

Where can you get the kit from?

DarkAngelOFGods says:

Death trap I know i have used the same brass ones in the past. Over time
the fittings will crack and either leak or fail all together. Not safe do
not use! as a quick short term fix ok maybe. But not as long term fix

Aaron Sandland says:

thanks guys totally helped my 90 Range Rover County

SylviaisGod says:

All I know is, duct tape definitely does not work.

STUPIDMEMBER says:

Using the correct type of compression fitting is important, but even with
the correct ones, DO NOT USE THEM WITH ABS. The hammering they will take,
can almost assure you that they will get pounded off.

Christian Dvorak says:

Apparently, everybody is an expert in the YouTube comment section.

ERICtheLATE says:

Flare and spin some sand paper around where ring will “bite” if ya cant do
the prior.

Rich M says:

Theirs the right way and then the redneck shade tree ways.

That holds for a while till who knows when. Doing brake lines this way is
like running bald tires.. You know it’s good for a while!

loser6574 says:

where is the flare ull get a major leak

EMeadus says:

Compression fitting are used on all NASCAR setups…….Good enough for
this guy

lambition says:

As many people already said, it is unsafe and illegal in many states.

@No Say.
Where did you find compression union/coupling being used in cars and
caliper ?
They are all double flared or compression washer type. Very different thing
from compression ring being used in this video. Compression ring is not
meant for high pressure system.

Ed Erickson says:

nice video backyard mech’s we all do. nice job fellows

adkfrank says:

You can buy steel compression fittings that are DoT approved in NY. Can
speak for other states.

guahould says:

if I was the inspector…

MYM45ONTUBE says:

Jack Connors says:

No Say says:

Compression rings are used in a lot of cars at the caliper end. Why will it
fail on an inline fit. Atr you actually saying that brake fluid reaches
1100 pounds per square inch? 1100 pounds? seriously

cadauctions31 says:

That is majorly illegal in Massachusetts….. of coarse everything is
illegal in Mass, but that still is dangerous. They can fail under the heat
and pressure of braking on a steep hill!

Ian Keirstead says:

Thank guys. this video was really helpful. Thanks for showing all the steps
you did.

noway180 says:

I have never had one leak or burst my entire life. Even a few wrecks where
my brake were munched as hard as I could to try and stop. My father used
these and I show my kids to use them. Best part is where the leak is you
cut out an inch or so and put the compression fitting on and you don’t buy
any line at all.

heydude76 says:

sneezing always does a sneak attack on me too!! thanks for the video
totally took me out of mystery town!

coolin7000 says:

Do you know where there is any compressed pussy?

julian12345 says:

i agree i just used compression fittings to fix my brake lines but its not
as safe as using a flare kit. its a great fix because it can be done in 30
minutes if you have a little wrenching experience. on the other hand i
would replace the entire brake line once you have some time

Zxceelxuz says:

For the extra minute it would take to flare them properly, you could avoid
a potentially dangerous situation.

63lesabre says:

@odotcom I suppose you could, but when you clamp the compression fitting
down, the line automatically flares to the shape of the dish inside the
fitting, so if you were to flare it yourself, you might risk a leak because
the flare is different than the pre-molded flare inside the fitting.
