Hey Scotty, i have a 1996 mustang GT and as of this afternoon every time i
go from a complete stop to slowly moving forward my left front side ( i
assume it’s near my tire) makes some clunking noises. I would say about 3-4
clunking sounds and then it stops. Nothing happens when i turn either
direction, just when i start to move forward. The brake rotors and pads are
completely new, and my tie-rod ends are decent. Any help would be greatly
appreciated!

Scotty! I have a B6 Audi S4 that is making clunking noises when I steer,
take off, or come to a stop. When steering, it’s mostly loud when it’s all
the way to either side. I took it to Audi and they said they tightened the
front sway bar which fixed the clunking but after two days, the clunking
came back. My mechanic says it’s the front axles. Do you have any idea what
my problem could be? It’s not the struts because I have a full H&R coilover
kit.

First off great videos. My 01 Chevy S10 is pulling to the right. when I
turn the wheel to the right I hear a popping/clunking sound. Wondering if
it may be a bad ball joint? My boots look fine no rips or tears. Also
noticed some outside wear on passenger side front tire. Any help would be
awesome. Once again thanks for the videos have learned alot.

Kody Darlington says:

Hey Scotty , I had a garage look at the 1995 Ford Explorer I have been
fixing up , when the mechanic came back , he said it sounds like a worn out
steering universal , the wheel does have clunking , my question is, does
the universal have to travel with the suspension ? its the universal that
connects to the rack an pinion unit , I was also told its the rack, but I
don’t see an leaks, please let me know on the universal. Kody

Nick Rojas says:

Scotty you’re a badass!

Warhawk says:

Wow I am impressed with your videos and love your enthusiasm. I’m gonna try
changing my sway bar link instead of getting someone else to do it. Thanks
Scotty Kilmer!

Thanks for the video Scott .

Wildy M says:

I have a 2008 maxima and im getting a sharp piched squick out of the front
passanger suspension. Does not happen all the time just when going over
bumps that specifically hit that tire. Took it to the mechanic they checked
what you showed nothing and could not replicate the noise while in the
garage. Only get it on that side only on bumps on that side of suspension.
When the car hits a bump that whole front end moves but the squish only
happens on that side. Any suggestions? Mechanic did change a loose
stabilizer but did not notice a change in yhe noise.

Mergim Koboci says:

Hey Scott I have a 2002 nissan altima every time I drive it and when I go
over a bump it’s makes a weird clucking sound on the passenger side I
changed bother inner and outter tie rods, motor mount and the springs I
still hear it when I drive it, do you know what could it be?

Kody Darlington says:

Scotty, I have done the wheel bearings on the 95 explorer, its not making
the noise as bad as it was, I was told to tighten up the torsion bars, my
question is I know it raises the height or the vehicle , Does it stiffen up
the suspension ? meaning maybe the suspension is weak an if I tighten the
torsion bars up this will fix it ? I also put new tires on the front end
since I replaced everything, ball joints, shocks, sway bar links an
bushings an wheel bearings, please let me know. I feel it on the drivers
side

Ed Taylor says:

Great, explains good, and makes it simple to understand.

tDames of The WerkHeads says:

I have a huge clunk on my 98 Grand Prix, its only when driving straight and
it can hit a bump and not make the noise at all but when I get up to speed
its super loud and sounds like its clunking in a circle. I cannot for the
life of me find out whats going on with it

TheInfamoussyn05 says:

Hopefully I can get some help, cause I am clueless now.. I have
clicking/grinding noise coming only from my front passenger wheel. It ONLY
clicks/grinds when I apply the brakes, and it only makes the noise when the
tire turns in a full revolution. Its fine when turning, pulling into
driveways, or hitting bumps, no problems.. Recently I installed a new cv
axle, tie rod ends, stabilizer link bar, new brake pads and even checked
the brake fluid lol and still got that noise. And there is no play in the
wheel, but I do need to replace the wheel bearing since it has slight hum
to it.. Any thoughts would be much appreciated

Eric Rojas says:

Scotty I hit a curb while trying to avoid a car crash with a car that ran a
red light, i crashed a curb while my wheel was turned slightly, the crash
wasnt too bad enough to make your car move and shake a lot but there was no
body damage or anything, now when i turn the steering wheel i hear a
popping noise coming from the crash side or middle section of the car the
alignment seems to be good do you have Any suggestions on what the popping
noise can be ?

Kody Darlington says:

Scotty, on this 95 explorer I have been working on, I have replaced both
lower ball joints, new stabilizer links an bushings, I did find play in the
tie rods , my question is there is play in the wheel , I suspect worn out
wheel bearings , do worn out wheel bearings cause clunking because there is
play in the wheel ? it has new shocks new lower ball joints, new stabilizer
links an bushings, what would you say ? new tie rods an wheel bearings ?
its 2wd the truck. please let me know. Kody

M1KEMEX says:

Love your videos but this one made me uncomfortable: is it really safe to
work with the car while on the lifting jack?

Thom Lessard says:

Hi scotty i have a question What Causes inside of the both Tire Wear on
my toyota corolla 2003.. I replaced already this parts of the both side
.Tie rods, outer, and inner, ball joint and sway bar link and one cv axle
because it was broke..2 new tires in front. the problem is still the same;
tire make a noise in one side..i took for alignments but was told it needs
wheel hub asembly and i took in a other place they said the wheel hub its
good it needs others things, i’m confused. I lifted the car the tires
looked like they were not loose. yhanks i hope you help me. Gos bless you.

Abs Peacock says:

hey scotty! My clunk happens when I come off the throttle pedal, well
anytime I use engine braking, changing gears, and doesn’t happen when brake
is applied or accelerating. You seem very busy. I would be overwhelmed if I
hear back from you. Thanks Abs

Trackfresh says:

I changed out my struts, outer tie rod ends, and put in new control arms
when I put in lowering springs but it clunks a little over potholes. I am
thinking it has to do with the sway bar bushings and end links like in this
video.

jed bridge says:

I have a 2003 Mazda protégé 5. It was making a humming noise from the front
left tire. I replaced the wheel bearing thinking that would do it. Still
humming load. When you turn and the weight is o. The left it gets louder.
Any help Scotty? Your the man.

Luke Martin says:

Scotty is it standard operating procedure to cut the stabilizer bar links
off when replacing the lower control arms on a 98 Dodge Stratus? So much
rust and the bolt heads and allen wrench inserts stripped. I used a grinder
to chop them off.

Elwyn Carrol says:

if you replaced the sway bar links and you still get that clunking sound
would it be your cv axle.

Angel Torres says:

I have clunking or pop sounds when I turn the wheel left and right parked.
I lifted the car but when the suspension is unloaded it doesn’t make any
noise. Any ideas?

So what? says:

Hi Scotty. I bought a 92 Accord about a year ago. I brought to the mechanic
to get an oil change right after I bought and he said something suspension
system was too big (forget the name/ front). (I’m in Queens, NY) I asked if
it was something that I needed to change right away and he said no. He said
that the wheels would be inward from the bottom, making the tired wear from
the outside. Car sounds like pots and pans crashing when I hit a bump and
the hood rattles. Can’t remember if he said control arm.

Chris Bolin says:

Scotty, I have repairing cars for years and I am Stumped on my Clunk I get
on my 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I get a single clunk when I turn left (at
any speed) and one Clunk when the wheel straightens back out. Does nor
happen when turning right. I have already replaced my Upper and Lower
Control Arms, all Bushings for the stabilizer bar replaced,

88irishgringo says:

Frannyontheone says:

is the process the same for a 2004 dodge sx 2.0, also how much does that
part cost

Evan La Haye says:

Love your vides man! Really helpful!
I have a “clank” noise coming from the front end of my 2007 Acura TL-S.
Sounds like only the left side.
BUT I just cant seem to recreate the noise when I have my car up on stands
either. It occurs at about 20 mph and faster when I hit small cracks,
uneven pavement or pot holes. Driving slowly over speed bumps doesn’t
produce the noise.

The noise seems to happen only when the wheel itself it hitting rough road,
not so much when the struts are being compressed.

MrGoodrich23 says:

Hi-

I have a 04′ toyota corolla and replaced both sway bar links. Question…
there is an Allen key needed to hold the bolt from turning while you crank
it down. Problem though is that the Allen key will slip after a few turns
with the wrench and the assembly is not tight enough with quite abit of
noise. Any ideas?

screenshot123 says:

Dude. Would like to see you around for more videos, but I don’t see a jack
stand anywhere supporting your car other than your floor jack. All it takes
is a $.05 O-ring to fail when you’re under the vehicle. Be safer please.

angela alvarez says:

I have a 2007 mustang Gt V8 4.6 started with a clunking sound over small
potholes very annoying, Had struts, mounts, control arms, ball joints,
brakes, rotors and rear axle replace. The problem still exists, Help…3
shops and no one finds the problem. sounds worse now than when I replaced
everything. still clunks but worse and now when turning or backing out it
clunks. was told the stabilizer bar is fine and that the links are tight. I
am thinking what the heck might as well swap them out to. Spent 2000 in
parts and still sounds like a junk any thoughts here.

firm say at 5 mph theres a clunk and the front right tire turns backwards a
bit then goin back into place all a quick motion clunk roll back then back
to normal spot any clues?

krogerman83a says:

Thanks for the vid. My rattling noise was both front stabilizer bolts. The
bushings were all missing.

Kyle Mc says:

Make it seem so simple, thanks, great vid!

David Sholar says:

Scotty – Love your videos. I have the center front clunk on 03 Buick
Lesabre when slow stopping. Checked all bushings that I can see, anti-sway
bar, motor mounts, ball joint, all look & feel firm. Replaced struts and
hubs. I can’t see front control arm bushings. Is there an easy test to
see if these bushings have failed?

C0LL1N says:

I wish that the ball and socket style links were this easy to change.

Bill Lions says:

I have a 2000 Bonneville that makes a crunching sound when I make a hard
