dahgutone says:

@nepom1 Yeah and there a some people who hit the gas pedal thinking it’s
the brakes.

bostondog55 says:

so what if the other car gets more damage. trucks are sopose to do that

drakesolar says:

cars aren’t mean to crash, they’re designed to protect the passengers. it’s
far easier to total a new car, but it’s just as easy to survive a crash on
a newer car. don’t come here with your “plastic is crap” bullshit because
lighter cars are more efficient, look better and are cheaper. if you don’t
like damaging the fascia on you car, DON’T CRASH IT, DAMMIT

FusilliJerry82 says:

As much as I wholeheartedly agree, try and picture a 2009 Mercedes with
something akin to 1980 Mercedes 300SD bumper hobbled onto it. Wouldn’t sell.

grgggrggrrggr says:

10169 Videos?????????????????????? OMG!!

Dragon Butt says:

Then dont do 1980’s. Think about the S300. The one with the Gull wings?
THOSE kinds of fenders. 😀

Ryan B says:

“Obviously these higher bumpers are for appearance, not for function.” Well
stated, too bad manufacturers always keep the profit margin above the
safety margin.

limeimac97776 says:

Thats why i love my 1984 GMC sierra. I want that 72 cheyenne in the
background!!

390merc65 says:

if that old chevy was 4wd..you can bet the bumper would be higher

Lori McGeary says:

@drakesolar Cheaper yes but still not as cool or as good looking as chrome.
Older cars, especially from the 50’s to the 70’s and some 80’s cars, look
better all around than anything made after 2000 and will crush your plastic
bumpers and probably damage my chrome ones too. But steel bumpers can be
fixed, too, not just thrown away.

lushdrunkguy says:

If my bumper is lower to the ground I might get it caught on a rock or tree
stump, then that could cause a rear end accident. I figure I will just lift
my Jeep 3 inches to fix my hieght problem.

DonTruman says:

The damage done by very slow-speed impacts to modern “bumpers” is
scandalous. Check out IIHS’s “bumper evaluations” data, showing the cost of
6mph and 3mph “bumps.” In contrast, a big chrome bumper can take a few hits
without looking too bad, and then to replace one is do-it-yourself job that
only costs a few hundred. Bumpers should be designed to take minor bumps
without much damage, if any, and be cheap to replace. That’s what “bumpers”
are for.

ScottaHemi says:

ah i was hoping they would crash the C10 into something, i wanna see what
kinda damage the thing can do to that hyundia they kept rear ended 😀

DukeNukem2020 says:

@nicka2316 My mom had an ’84 Buick(I honestly can’t remember, it was a real
nice one though), and it had the chrome bumpers on it with those little
rubber rectangles(like the green chevy pickup in the video)

Masticina Akicta says:

Interesting and yes it makes sense. What is wrong with a simple truck
..that has a normal ground clearance?

ARandomGamerTX2 says:

My truck is 15 years old, 182,000 miles on it, original engine, original
transmission….It’s a TOYOTA

akboss9000 says:

Re:killapawner, Not everybody wants or needs to drive a massive pickup –
this can be resolved simply by redesigning the bumpers from the mfr, saving
everyone money. And BTW, it won’t be me that’s bitching that my trunk is
bent in, your insurance is the one that pays for my new car, and your
premiums go up.

Cody Johansen says:

does that guy realize that just mabey the bumper on the new truck is just
at the same level as the frame? if it was lower , it would reduce the
functionality, being rigitidy and strength in a crash…

Frank Pawloski says:

@ghunt81 it doesnt make a difference about how many drive wheels it has,
they were making a point that work vehicles’ bumper hight has changed in
almost 40 years

Frank Pawloski says:

@ghunt81 they did have 4wd trucks in 76 (that’s the year of my chevy C10)
and mine is the exact same hight as a 4wd of the same year, maybe it’s
different today. all trucks are too high today, the bed on mine is about a
foot and a half lower than my neighbor’s ’10 F150, trucks today are
becoming less practical in my opinion.

Dmitriy Wise says:

@dahgutone Sorry, they are usually not people but women.

12Achilleas says:

Thaws bumpers are way better than a 1992 wrangler Laredo that has a bumper
that you can shoot and nothing happens

howtowakeakar says:

What the hell is the point of buying a truck if it’s ground clearance is
the same as an Accord? Sure it can haul cargo, but why not get a van at
that point?

0thingthing0 says:

somebody crashed into the back of me once. damage cost to me= $0. damage
cost to the idiot who can’t see a big red land rover= $3000+. good ol steel
bumper.

wt69chevy says:

I’m just glad they didn’t crash test that nice looking 72 C-10 Chevy truck,
I would hate to see it messed up.

brettfavregb says:

79 chevy pickup 4×4 268,000 miles. Still running strong. Original
everything!

Dragon Butt says:

Chevrolet 😀 Why dont we just make bumpers like we used to and put them
separate of the vehicle, attached only by hydraulics. It worked
wonderfully, and did’nt cost two grand to replace when broken or bent.

sniperv25 says:

love the technicolor tie….

Dmitriy Wise says:

It’s total bullshit!!! Their collision tests don’t really recreate the real
world situation. In real accident the driver of the car coming from behind
would hit the brakes as hard as he can thus lowering the front of the car
by some 5-7 inches and eventually matching heights with the other, non SUV
car. Think about it.

jitterball says:

good video. it shows a complete lack of engineering and design while these
guys go to school for years to learn how to design, then at the end, they
design with lots of flaws…

ARandomGamerTX2 says:

ha, true

Brutalnemisis says:

then maby jackasses shouldnt hit each other! Just because of a few idiots
you shouldnt harrass guys who want vehicles that are offroad able. also I
know on most my vehicles I cut and remold the plastic below to get the
ground clearence i need.

pmthk69 says:

i figure my jeep can plow through or over most cars…. lucky me 🙂

phatchase says:

??? that was completely off subject but ok.

max95diesel says:

WOW HOLY SHIT thats amazing a ford that has more then 50,000!!!! jesus
thats rare right there

tucsondog says:

@limeimac97776 And i love my 1985. My friend was making fun of me for
having such an ugly, steel bumper. A week later he backed into my rear
bumper. I laughed and told him that i wouldn’t go to my insurance company
if he wiped his green paint off my chrome. 4 days and over $900 later, his
civic had a new bumper/fender and was back on the road…. Score: GMC 1,
Honda 0. 8P

crazeguy26 says:

@IDontUsePicks true

palidandeoblo says:

especially a 76 JEEP Camanchee

the06bug says:

Adrian points out many things here that even I failed to notice… and I
notice a lot of things, mind you!

ghunt81 says:

Isn’t that old Chevy a 2WD, being compared to the ’08 being a 4WD?

phatchase says:

My truck is 10 years old, 130,000 miles on it, original engine, original
transmission….It’s a FORD.

FindCarAccidentLawyer says:

Certain trucks and SUVs certainly do pose a risk to other vehicles should
those trucks or SUVs strike them in the rear.
