Restoration Of A Ruined Legend – Honda VFR 400 NC30 – Part 6

Restoration Of A Ruined Legend – Honda VFR 400 NC30 – Part 6

Well you asked for a longer episode so this one should make good on that at nearly an hour long! In this episode I tackle to massive job of reconditioning all of the engine parts and getting them put back together in the way Honda intended. The first stage of this process removing all of the scale build up from the water jacket, I done this by using a central heating cleaner in a bath of hot water and it done the job nicely. The casings were also all striped back to bare alloy and refinished to better than OEM spec and all of the mechanical parts have been inspected, cleaned, machined or replaced as necessary and all of that added up to one fully rebuilt engine that’s fit for another 40,000kms… hopefully.

Enjoy.

Can't you reset the Kilometers on the Instruments to 0, as you pretty much did a "factory reset"?

As a qualified mechanic I must ask about this finger snap assembly method and where can I learn it 😉

I’m equally as impressed at the quality of your editing as I am the bike restoration. Amazing work!

Excellent video mate, I've learnt so much from these! What might be cool is a deep dive (or short videos) into some of your techniques, particularly the re-coating of fasteners.

When he's laying down the sealant, he has such steady hands!

08:40 of all the places this would be one of the last to expect a Bob Ross reference XD

Fantastic work, loving the results!

Might I give a suggestion for another bike?
Mid 90's Yamaha GTS.
I was the owner of 3 in the early 2000's and sadly had to give them all up due to life issues.
My plan was to get an FJ 1300 (2016 or newer has a shaft drive and 6spd trans) and replace the drive line in the GTS with the FJ's
One of the "style" things to accomplish with shaft drive was to give both ends of the bike a single sided swing arm look.
Additionally the FJ had a better ABS (I believe Bosch) and proper "throttle by wire" and thus cruise control.
The last 3 design goals I would have tried to accomplish would be to make a tightly tucked under exhaust like the Ducatti Panigale, more fall-resistant set of mirrors and finally redesign the fuel tank to get closer to 4 gallons.

Finding GTS's in the states is next to impossible but in checking various web sites in europe they SEEM to be pretty common.

Thank you for sharing and I enjoy your episodes.
Cheers

@dooder69 says:

What spray gun are you using on all the engine components? Is it a detail gun?

@blackbirdxx4613 says:

I like that idea of marking where the bolts go

19:11的影片裡,作過缸壁的研磨後建議再用細砂紙修飾,能感覺缸壁的潤滑度.或許對缸壁跟活塞環有幫助.

You should do more customization.
