I finally had the chance to get that radiator on this weekend. It is working great. Your help was priceless with this one. The one thing I would suggest is to change out the hose clamps from spring clamps to the type you can tighten with a screwdriver. They were much easier to slide on and tighten up. Now on to the AC condenser next month!

Thanks Dave. This is helpful. I feel like I can do this myself. I will let you know how it goes. Keep posting those videos.  I am afraid something is going in the front left side of the suspension next. At least it’s paid for.

doing this again, i wouldve taken the front bumper cover off. This would make easier access to the radiator. I also would’ve bought a grommet removal tool.

The dealership told me it was “cracked all the way across the top.” I have looked at it now and apparently they mean “separated” not cracked. I am at 237k on a 2002 Civic LX 1.7 ltr that has the exact same problem. After being quoted almost as much as an entire paycheck I decided I am going to try this myself. Watched these videos and a couple of others. Any suggestions or obvious things I may miss before I go buy overpriced grommets? lol

Good vid. My question though is why didnt you just take the front bumper off? You would have to remove the hood latch, or the radiator cover, and its only 8 grommits and 2 or 4 8mm bolts and 2 screws. You wouldnt have to jack it up, remove the latch, and have full access to the entire radiator.

I hav a civic EX 2001 (mexican model) that is overheating on low speed and when is parked with the engine running, i think its the cooler fan is not switching at all. Where is the fan swith for this model and where can i find it in online stores.

Very helpful. Honda made this amazingly difficult to figure out. Haynes book hinted at taking the bumper off, but was no help whatsoever as to how to do it. Your method was much easier.

What is the thing called that the oxygen sensor is connected to. That component gets really really hot (orange hot) if i drive alot. Can you tell me what the problem is please if you know.

Don’t focus on the level of fluid in the radiator. The level in the overflow is what you need to be looking at. Fill the overflow to its max level mark and check it again in a few days. If you do this and the level keeps going down; then, you might have a leak somewhere in your coolant system. Good luck.

Thanks for the video and it’s very helpful. I just have done the same job on my 01 civic. Got one question for you. I refilled the coolant to the top of the filler neck of the radiator and bled the air out of the system. However, once I have driven the car, the coolant level in radiator drops about 1 to 1.5 in’ next morning when engine is cold. I have tried to refill it to the top several time, but it’s still the same. No overheating of the engine. What is correct coolant level in radiator?
