No Spark Diagnosis (Honda) – EricTheCarGuy

No Spark Diagnosis (Honda) – EricTheCarGuy

It’s been a while, I’ve missed you. In this little tutorial I’m covering the basics of diagnosing a Honda ignition system. I had some technical difficulties while doing this one (I forgot to press record on a couple of occasions and missed a couple of shots) and didn’t get all that I had hoped in this video. In particular I was hoping to show the use of a test light to do this diagnosis but didn’t get all the footage necessary so I’ll go back and shoot that at a later date. I’m hoping there is enough information here to get you started in understanding and diagnosing your ignition system so that you don’t have to buy stuff you don’t need trying to fix a problem.

Here is a link to a place where you might find the tool I used in the video

I want to give a shout out to Greg Insco who donated his car for this video, he’s trying to get on some show called Survivor next season and I helped him with his application video. You can check him and the video out via the link below. I just checked the link and I see that he hasn’t posted it yet but says he will on the 28th of December 2009 so keep checking back on that.

As always you can find me at EricTheCarGuy.com, as I said in the video there are new things coming to the site for 2010 so keep checking back to check those out.

Random Things By Mike says:

Very helpful!!! Even today. There is one big thing left out here. The same non-triggering issue from the Ignitor/Ignition control module will also occur if the main relay is not working or connected. This is due to the fact that it responsible for telling the ECU that it can send signals to fire the coil , when the fuel pump and fuel injectors are powered properly.

OldSchoolAmos says:

Thanks Eric!! 2022 this video is still helping!

Lawrence Anderson says:

Just a FYI to those with problems starting when your car is warm. If your car normally cold but sometimes has difficulties starting when warm, check your coolant temperature sensor. That was the reason for my car having problems starting when warm.

A M says:

This actually lead to me fixing my 92 integra rs, which needed a new rotor 🙂

Marty Smith says:

I had crank no fire. Hours of investigation. Turns out the problem with mine was that stupid little spring that goes from the ignition coil to the distributor cap. What i need to know is can you just replace the spring or does it come with the distributor cap or the ignition coil? Also is it connected to either one or is it normally loose? When new.
