my 2004 civic has 206k miles. the cabin shakes primarily when ac is on meaning the fans affect it a lot. most of the time, its fine. do you think its a dirty throttle body or bad engine mounts?
This isn’t a rap video.
i jacked it up from the front from the typical jacking point and placed a 2×4 block under the oil pan. Used another jack to hold the block, thus holding the engine while i did this job.

this is a great question, as mine has 250000 miles on it and has been shaking in the cabin. i have to find some time to find which motor mount is going bad. I believe there are two other mounts that cushion the engine shake. I’ll post a vid when i find out whats up.
hows it going dave. I have a 2004 honda civic LX and i just recently bought it 3 days ago with 120,000 miles. the interior of when im driving rattles alot but on the outside does not sound that bad. could it be motor mount at a certain location? or is it something else.. Never had a civic with that less power the reason why i got it is because of fuel economy..
If the motor mount needs or is close to needing replaced, you will know right away. A vibration in the cars cabin will take place until the engine is to operating temp after starting the motor. Also, open the hood and rev the engine while having someone look at the mounts and engine reaction itself. You should see minimal movement. Most mounts are rubber and have a little give. Too much and/or cabin vibration are a sure sign of it though.
I have some questions, is there a way to diagnose if this motor mount needs to be replaced? is there a standard distance where I can measure its wear like the distance between the bracket that connects it to the engine to the metal frame below it? Thanks for your video.
mine was old and brittle. also, the bolt that we were trying to take off was seized and needed to be lubricated for quite a while before trying this.
I have a 2001 Civic EX. If I went to replace this mount, would I have to worry about it blowing up like yours did, or was that just because yours was really old?

ferrarif174, YOU MIGHT HAVE ANOTHER MOTOR MOUNT THAT IS BROKEN, SUGGEST CHANGE ALL AT ONCE, I REPLACED THE OEM WITH AFTER MARKET ONES: INNOVTIVE MOUNTS 60A STREET, (REDS) D SERIES HYDRO, THEY WILL NEVER WEAR OR TEAR, YOU CAN FEEL SOME VIBRATION, BUT ITS DUE TO THE STIFFNESS OF THE BUSHING IN THE MOUNT, BUT MY ENGINE SOUNDS LOUDER AND I CAN FEEL IT TAKING OFF QUICKER. DEFENITLY RECOMEND, ONLY THING IS THAT INNOVATIVE MOUNTS DONT ENCLUDE THE FRONT MOTOR MOUNT
depends on what you mean by leak and where it is leaking….well, if the mount is hydraulic filled like mine was, it would only leak the fluid out until it was empty.
can the malfunction of that mount make your car leak?
sounds like you didn’t tighten the bracket down far enough. The motor mount boot is filled with hydraulic fluid and should absorb the vibration, unless not installed properly. Check your nuts and torque them if you haven’t.
just changed that exact mount on my 2o02 civic, now i get crazy vibration on the car. whether or not the car is moving.. any idea? thanks

Watch my “Pt.1 of 2: Timing Belt Service 7th Gen Honda Civic” video around the 8:20 mark. This is where i support the engine for my timing service. I also use this method to hold the engine while changing the motor mount too.

Get a hydraulic jack and a thick block of wood. Place the in between the jack and the oil pan. Then lift the jack just under the oil pan where it is touching, but not lifting the car up. The idea is to hold the weight of the engine by the oil pan. This should give you the support you need while changing that motor mount. GOOD LUCK!!!
