Thanks for posting this video clip. This is the only clip that correctly
shows how to open up the plastic housing by liftting it up and at the same
time pulling it toward metal-key side. It worked for my Civic 2006. Thanks
You So Much!

This was so helpful. Unfortunately for my key fob, the screw would not come
out because something like LocTite was put on the screw. In trying to
unscrew it, the screw was stripped (and I definitely used the right size
screwdriver). In any case, I just used the flat end of the screw driver to
pop the key fob open from the top and then I just shook the battery
pack/key fob out. lol. Anyways, this video was helpful because I learned
how the top opens and how to replace the battery. Thanks! 🙂

Meg sie says:

To undo the small screw you will need to heat it up with a hairdryer as the
screw has loctite on it. Undo the screw while it is really really hot as
this will weaken the blue loctite glue they use to stop us getting into the
unit and changing the battery cheaply.

jackson j says:

you must use blue loctite on the screw, or it will come loosing up while
been used.

Jack Walsh says:

I saw it come off at 3:50 when you’re trying to kind of clean the key-
watch your right hand and the middle of the key very closely! Nothing too
important 😀

KENFL74 says:

I heard service putting some loctite kind of glue on my keyfobs to prevent
the screw getting lose. It saves them money because this way they do not
have to replace the key fob if it is under warranty. If it is not under
warranty, then they do not even mess with it and tell the customer that is
lose so you have to get a new fob. I am glad you were able to pop it open
without breaking it!

Alexia Figueroa says:

I replaced the battery but it’s still not working. Help! 🙁

The_Chosen_1 says:

you just saved me a trip to the honda dealership (and probably $50 for them
to change the battery!) thanks!

Nick Gerdes says:

I wish all cars came with a key fob that has the key attached to it

Konstantin Gurmeza says:

at 3:32 you are taking the top off, and the bottom with the metal part of
the key is on the bottom. at 345 you’re holding the bottom, when you start
cleaning it that is where the small plastic fell from. the sides of the
bottom of the key. if you see there are 5 of those small little plastics go
into the top. 3 on one side and and 2 on the other. two of mine broke, so i
was trying to figure it out. there ya go.

Macy Ng says:

thank you for your video 🙂

KENFL74 says:

You know I never figured that out myself. I opened my key again right after
recording the video and tried to figure out what piece that was. And I
couldn’t but it seems like does not have impact on operation of the key fob.

Michelle Henriques says:

when i opened my key i found that little black piece also not sure where it
came form too but the key works ok

THIS IS THE MOST USEFUL COMMENT OR TIP ABOUT REPLACING A FOB BATTERY!!!
thank you. I had the crew problem. even after using WD40, I couldn’t
unscrew it and get the fob open. Thanks to your comment, I simply popped it
open!!! WORKED. Except for some scratches, the key fob is fine.

contagioushart says:

thanks for the video bro!!!! Very helpful

guypresley says:

Great video! I too found the little black piece leftover. It didnt effect
operation of the key so I tossed it. I wonder if its a tell sign? Lets
Honda know if you tampered with the key lol
