Thank you for watching our 2016-2020 Honda Civic rear bumper cover replacement video. We love working on Honda vehicles because they are easy to work on. Honda engineered this car to be safe without putting unnecessary bolts or brackets everywhere. The is DIY job is definitely something that anyone can do with simple tools and motivation. A painted bumper can be expensive but body shops will charge more for labor. While some bumpers or cars may be worth it, this Honda Civic is very easy to replace.

TOOLS NEEDED:
You will need a torques bit T30 for the bumper top bolts. You will need a Philips screwdriver and a panel clip removal tool. You can also use a flat-head screwdriver instead but the panel clips are easier to use. We also used a small rachet with a Philips bit for the fender liners.

PROCESS:
Let’s get this bumper off your car or installed with a quickness. Lift the trunk to expose 2 T30 style bolts or screws. Remove these and move to the fender liners or the bottom of the bumper. We chose to take the bottom bumper clips off. There are about 3 on each side and some in the middle. Use your panel clip removal tool for these clips, or your flat-head screwdriver. Once you have the bottom of the bumper loose, you can focus on the fender liners. Honda makes it really easy here, the fender liner is attached by 3 plastic screws. Remove each screw and you can pop the bumper off the brackets or bumper retainers. Work your way to the middle to completely remove the bumper. We told you this was an easy removal process!

Now you want to replace all the bumper components if you can. We always recommend reusing any parts if you are able to. If not you, can just go ahead with installing the new parts. The lower valance or diffuser is attached by 2 screws on each end. Remove the screws and pop the lower valance off from the bumper tabs. The reflectors are also held on in a similar way. Remove the 2 screws and pop them off the bumper. It may be kind of difficult but if you are solely replacing the reflectors, use your panel clip removal tool and not a flat-head screwdriver. If you do not have the tool, wrap your flat-head in tape or cloth so you don’t scratch the paint. Installing the accessories is no different. Follow all the steps you just took but in reverse. It is important to mention, the lower valance has tabs on each end that must be inserted into the bumper. Please watch the video on how to install this. It may cause some complications when you try to secure the lower bumper later on.

Finally, you have to install your Honda Civic bumper. This is just as easy as you removing the bumper. If you are working by yourself, be sure to screw on the top bolts so the bumper does not fall. Snap the bumper onto the bumper retainer or brackets. It is very common in some accidents for these brackets to break, please check them before you install the bumper. It may prevent the bumper from installing correctly. Other than that, the rest is easy-peasy. Secure the fender liner and bottom clips. Congratulations, you have finally replaced your Civic rear bumper cover!

Thanks – I needed to remove my bumper to install LED lights where the side reflectors are. Turned out well, but for whatever reason when I was done I ended up with an extra screw from behind the wheel… no clue where it came from!

Good video. One thing to note, especially if they have been removed before, is that the goofy plastic clips may well break while trying to take them off. Fortunately, most auto parts stores carry new ones.

I need to replace the rear bumper valence on my 2019 Civic, so this was very helpful. It would probably be a good time to put on my rear splash guards too.
