To much story

Will Berry says:

If the power is tapped to the pink and blue wires will they still turn on
if you flip the switch on the roof?

Wei Wang says:

Hey Alec, great video.

I watched all three videos you made for Foot Well, Under Glow, and
Invisible Entry Light, and I really appreciate the work and detail of the
Vids (Ignore the haters in the comment section that can’t be bothered to
actually learn something).

Anyway, my question is this:

1) As I have a different Honda (2014 Crosstour), there will be a lot of
similarities, but what would be the best way to test the Dome Light
circuitry (or any circuitry) to make sure which is + or -? (I just got a
multi-meter for all my planned electric mods).

2) Will the LEDs (or Underglow or Entry Light) be turned on when someone in
the back manually turn on the Dome Light? I’m not sure if the control of
the grounding is done at the relay box area or on the actual dome light
itself?

Thanks.

JIV3 says:

but you are held responsible for me clicking away from you video at the 43
second mark.

Momojhawks says:

So what controls when the lights dim? Lol magic? Whenever you interrupt a
circuit by lowering resistance, and increasing current draw.. You can break
things. No I did it.. Lol but I used the cigarette lighter.

steelerdrew79 says:

I now want to smash my head into a brick wall multiple times. There is such
thing as to much information. Good idea to attach to dome light but being a
electrician here is a few tips for your next project insted of using the
crimps u used and having to smash them up next to your plug which will
probably cause u some issues if it has not already just cut them. Use a
butt connector and add ur self a little more wire use some heat shrink tube
to cover ur connections and it looks sweet. Leave ur self about 2 or 3
inches of original wire coming out of ur plug. I was going to use the cig
lighter but ill use the dome now thanks

noinoi24 says:

would the wire color be the same as the honda civic SI 2008?

Victor Sanchez says:

Awesome video (: thanks for the help

MCsniper says:

……o_O I paid 13 bucks to get blue LEDs that plug into my lighter…that
was so easy.

joshxcow1 says:

Is there an easier method to do this? O__o

Christian Villalpando says:

I have a honda civic lx 2002, is it done the same way or different?

abhi08638 says:

Hey Alec do you know what gauge those pink and blue wires were? Im not
going to use scotchloks but I am going to splice the wires, wrap it in
electrical tape and put on heat shrink tubing. Problem is I don’t know what
size to get

Gabe L says:

ok too detail on the un-important craps, and too little info on the main
point. So the pink is ground? Blue is Positive??

Usman Chaudhry says:

can u go into a little more detail about the pink and blue wires and what
wires too attach to them

Johnathan Sookrah says:

Good video, however i want to wire the LED’s so that they turn on and off
with the dome lights, but i also want to have a switch that turns them on
and off so i can have them on while driving or something. Do you know a way
to wire that?

complex2034 says:

wow 2 minutes on how to remove the fucking dead pedal and a 13 second
picture explaining nothing on how to plug the wires properly which is the
main topic… crap video

carlorocky says:

Alec, can all light strips be connected this way? What brand/vendor did you
use? I want to set mine up exactly like yours. Nice job! Thanks

Sean Yao says:

Hey Alec, first I wanna thank you for putting this up.
Since I’m not familiar with wiring, I got a bit confused when you
explaining the pink and blue wires. Just want to double check, after
scotchlocking the pink and blue wires at 6:57 , you just go ahead and
ground the pink wire and solder the blue one with the led strip?

SauWze says:

whats the name of that blue connector ?

Momojhawks says:

Wiring into a already existing lighting circuit is dangerous if your not
carful. You can fry a lot more than a couple light bulbs. Try an ecu.

Rick Delzer says:

I enjoyed your detailed instructions in this video. I have a 2011 Malibu,
and wanting to install the led strips in the footwell, which power up the
same as my dome light. Can you point me in the direction I need to be for
instructions on how to do this? I’m not sure if installation will be
similar to your vehicle; maybe you can enlighten me. Thanks again.

Jacob Fascia says:

Thanks. I completed this mod thanks to your video but you should know that
the scotchloks i bought for this were not compatible with the lightstrip
wires.

Trevor Walker says:

So how do you wire it to come on when the headlights are turned on only,
which would be the more useful situation.

raspad67 says:

Way to make a vid tutorial, not really lol

person1492 says:

Thanks for contradicting yourself.

Alec Watson says:

And so, by saying that I could rightfully not assume you need to depress
the clutch and giving the ’84 Tercel as an example (where you don’t have to
depress the clutch) I contradicted myself? I was surprised that you owned a
vehicle that didn’t require the clutch to be depressed when starting. You
figured it should be assumed. I explained how that’s not necessarily true
via the Tercel, so I’ve contradicted myself. And a fail at “dumbassery” is
a good thing.

Alec Watson says:

@Rabubi01 I’m glad you like the video! Let us know how your install worked
out. Mine is still working strong. Just be careful not to short any wires –
it should just blow the fuse, but make sure all your connections are good
before replacing the fuse.

Alec Watson says:

Thanks for the positive comments! The stuttery fade at the end is entirely
the fault of my old computer. For some reason it rendered the whole video
with this choppiness. The effect is fantastic in person. You can see more
of what it looks like in my underglow video; near the end I show the
finished result and those lights are powered by the same source as these.
In that video, I used a better computer and there isn’t any choppiness.

wtfMYRON says:

it should be easy…….as u can see i was struggling lmao

Lamthesheep says:

Thank you sir. I got it working. I do have another question. I’m trying out
lights which 1. turn on with the door (like your video) and 2. turn on when
my headlights are on. I’m thinking of running 2 LED strip sets to get this
working (2 complete circuits), else the electricity from one set might
trigger the dome light and vice versa. Is this the best way of going about
this?

Alec Watson says:

The new lights will not fade with the dome light unless you can ground
trough the dimming module. As I stated in the video, positive is constant
and ground is controlled. It is wired this way so the dome light can be
turned on/off independently of the doors. You need to use the pink wire as
your ground in order for this to work–this wire goes through the dimming
module which controls when it grounds and applies PWM thus making it dim /
fade.

TheAKBUDDHA1 says:

MMM DUMBASS. When it breaks it breaks. And why don’t you go take a mechanic
class before lecturing people about using the parking brake. Its there for
a reason, if the manufacturers wanted to remove it to save some money they
would. I’ll just be laughing when your automatic car starts rolling down
the hill because the parking pawl breaks. Plus if its a Honda Auto they are
always in danger of breaking. Honda autos are a bad design to begin with.

Michael Salmon says:

Hi Alec, I was trying this tonight and for some reason the bulb will not
dim and turn off with the dome light. It stays on all the time, any
suggestions? Thanks

Alec Watson says:

Yes, I would go about it like that–that’s what I did for the second set of
lights (except I tapped from the radio, but whatever you’d like is fine).
It’s always best to have isolated circuits.

person1492 says:

In acting surprised in the supposed “No clutch start” when knowing that
older Toyotas have the option for such a thing. Who’s to say I wasn’t
driving one? I’m not, but it was somewhat a fail at dumbassery.

Radu Capmari says:

Is yours a Sedan? If it is tell me cuz i will do it for my 2010
Civic….Just reply to this comment

Roully09 says:

Sorry about that my good sir 😉

Alec Watson says:

They should be as long as they are only in the interior. In general,
interior lights can be whatever you want so long as they do not appear
brighter than your vehicle’s conspicuity lights (tail and front positioning
lights) from the outside. That would be really hard to do, as the interior
lights would be extremely bright. As for in Florida, you’re gonna have to
look that up for yourself.

behroozakhondzada says:

is this possible with a 2006 altima?

Alec Watson says:

Well, the first thing to check is that you actually have voltage coming
from your new wires. You can check for positive supply by routing the
negative of your LED strips to a ground point in the car (something bare
metal). If you’ve got positive, then you’re LEDs will light up with the
negative side to ground. If they don’t work, then check your wire taps. You
can also use a DVOM or other voltmeter. Also, try reversing the polarity of
your LEDS. They won’t work if its reversed.

1995 ford explorer For me, I cut a slit in a rubber gomet (w/a razor blade)
that led me to the engine bay. I then got 2 heavy duty primary wires, and
connected them to a hanger, and stuck it through the slit. (1/2)

toliom50 says:

@mrbugatty95 let me tell u how i did. u just connect the cables on each
side of the bulb in the roof. them wat u do is pull the carpet on the roof
and passed under and pulled from a door side.(1st remove the ruber covers
on the door. and run the cable under the plastic(door side cover) and due
like until u reach the fuse box area and finally put your lights conected.
And will turn on-off when u open or unlock ur car. man inbox if u have a
cuestion or problem. enri-m50@hotmail.com

Alec Watson says:

OK, first of all, I’m unfamiliar with the Acoord’s setup, but I would wager
it’s similar to the Civic’s. You shouldn’t have to tap from the dome light
itself. Secondly, if you don’t tap to the wires directly like I did, don’t
use any positive source other than what’s protected by the fuse for the
dome light circuit. You could bring about real electrical pains by using a
different positive. As to your concern over battery drain, if your lights
aren’t lit when you don’t want them to be, you’re OK.

AgentZero says:

are blue led interior legal (footwell, door, dome)? i mean only if they are
on when the door opens and unlock. i from florida

Alec Watson says:

Sorry, I need to clarify! I only now realized that you said “illegal”. This
should be legal, therefore my original “yes” answer is incorrect. No, these
are not illegal. Yes, they are legal.

colinkkelly says:

Hey Edison, you think you could give me a pointer to a good place for a
ground for the 3 LEDs that you hooked up to the radio? Thanks

person1492 says:

“Dumb fuck.” Coming from the person who says that “you need a whole new
gearbox.” Incorrect. You would have to replace the PARKING PAWL. Not a pin,
a parking pawl. Believe me, I have owned vehicles with automatic
transmissions and have NEVER used the parking brake. Ever. If you have a
car old enough that the parking pawl is in danger of breaking, it’s time
for a new car. Clearly, an 8th generation Civic is not in danger of
breaking the parking pawl. Thanks for your uninformed opinion.

mrbugatti95 says:

i have a 2002 honda civic coupe, would you please advise me on where and
which wires to tap into.

Alec Watson says:

In response to this comment and others like it, it will work for any
vehicle, but the problem will be locating the wires to tap into. Search the
web to see if anyone else has done it. It may even be helpful to call a
dealer’s service department. If you can find the wires and tap into the,
easily, it should work just like it does in the Civic.
