Great Instructions. I went to the local small engine repair shop today and
they wanted to charge me $49.00 for a five minute fix. Bought the cord and
went back home and watched this video and snap, it worked perfect. Cord
cost $7.00 for a heavy duty one. Thanks again! RS

Is this same for knock off Hondas?

Thank you for that. Think my spring might be broken. I’ll have to check. At
least now I know more than I did 2 minutes ago.

I have seen an owners manual for 1983. So it would have been around that
time period.

Recoil for the most part are the same for horizontal or vertical. Thanks!

lawneq says:

I will be hard for me to diagnose the problem with out the part here in
front of me, but I would say the pulley may be worn too much where the pawl
is held. There is usually a return spring that holds this pawl in. Is this
missing?

bumwinn says:

Ours doesn’t spin back, what does that mean? Plz reply bludklarteetus

Jennifer Castillo says:

Need Help on my GX390 recoil starter—the metal piece that comes out when
pulled to spin the motor keeps on rattling… tried to readjust it and
removed grease but its still the same —-any help would be appreciated…

Brian Gibson says:

awesome, thanks!

WeCameHereToParty says:

Thank you for the vid! I was confused on how to get the tension on the
spring for the starter of a GX390. Now I’m going back outside to try your
method. 😉

Smallgasengine1 says:

is this the same for honda vertical shaft engines?

lawneq says:

The spring underneath pulley is probably broke or bent.
