Dean Walker says:

My spring was bigger and harder to wind. I used a board, put in a screw.
attach outter hook of spring to the screw. attach center hook spring to a
drill and slowly wind. The spring will wind and get tighter. Once the
spring is to the size you need, slip a zip tie (cable tie) around the
spring to hold it. remove the screw and you should be able to lift the
spring without it unwinding. put the spring back into the housing and
carefully slip off the cable tie. It took me a few tries to perfect it, but
much easier than trying to do by hand.

Michael Caristi says:

if you have $50 to spend, there is a tool called EZ coil that will make
this much easier. if not, this works too.

Jeff Harris says:

Cool man do you have to do anything different with the newer modles like a
troy-bilt that has spring assist starting…… I want to do it myself but
I also dont want to mess anything up?

jfrost77hd says:

@black93z28camaro If it aint one thing it’s another…. that’s the way it
goes! As long as you have good spark, getting air and fuel, and good
compression it should run. Not knowing a thing about yours… if its sat,
clean the carb make sure the jets are clean, try a new plug might be really
flooded if it wont start with starting fluid, as long as it has good
compression it should run.

jfrost77hd says:

@reptile3iguana Hey thanks for watching!

tomitomtom says:

thank you man!! you saved my day!

doctorfeelucky says:

ok, I watched this video, applied it, but the way I tensioned up the coil
was that i gripped the inner hook with a pair of vice-grips and pulled,
until I got too flusterated because the thing kept getting loose and
wrapped around my thumb. so i wounded it on the reel and put it inside the
housing and it worked fairly good. I installed it back on my ATV, pulled,
and it grabbed the flywheel the 1st time, but the other time, thing just
spinned. Couldn’t get the arm to work properly.

MrFilthy Mcnasty says:

Do you think by cleaning the pull rope housing it will fix it? I havent
took the pully off or anything, I just took the housing off the motor and
drained the water out. If not what else could be making the noise? Any help
would be appreciated. Thank you

jfrost77hd says:

@br4nd0n136 Now what happened?

Zach Haddican says:

@jfrost77hd I might try changing the plug just for the hell of it. It has
sat for 3-4 years. I don’t really know shit about carbs. I am used to
working on cars with fuel injection lol. So take the carb off and clean it
up? How do you go about cleaning the jets out?

sm4397 says:

Thank you so much I worked on my pull start for two hours and finally gave
up.Was going to take it to a shop until I got the bright idea to you tube
ihow to fix it. With your help fixed my three wheeler in ten minutes thanks
again my son cant wait to ride.

jfrost77hd says:

Sounds like you have more wrong than the recoil. Do you know if the engine
runs or not, it might be siezed up.

MrFilthy Mcnasty says:

I just got an 85 Yamaha YTM 200 3 wheeler. When I got it I noticed the pull
rope was wet, I took the pull rope housing off the motor and mud and water
ran out of it and its a bit rusty on the little nut that holds the plastic
pully on, and the little lever that comes out and catches the rotor when
you pull it. My problem is I drove it today and while its running the pull
rope housing is making a constant grinding/rattling noise inside and its
driving me nuts. What could be wrong?
