How to Fix A Broken Honda Key Fob for $10!

The key fob shell on my second generation Honda Pilot failed. The physical key and modules still worked fine. I used the following Stauber $10 replacement shell from Amazon and its working great.

Great video. Here at a Honda dealer getting car serviced now. Parts dept quoted 170 for one new key/fob. Rebuild two for 65. Thanks for the video.

Raoul Jain says:

My struggle is with trying to physically take the key out of the shell. I've unscrewed it, but there doesn't seem to be a way to pull it out =(.

This is super helpful! I have the exact same key and problem and almost the same year Pilot. I will definitely buy this part and do this too. Also, related video: I needed this type of trick the other night. My car wouldn't start until I put the guts back in the key fob and held it closed while I started. I was getting worried. Was stuck in the parking lot for 25 min with kids, thinking I needed a tow truck. Then I figured it out, and found this video after-the-fact: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD4Xk6NzN0M.

Question: your video looks super good on the up-close shots like that. Sometimes I make soldering videos and things and my videos kind of stink. Can you take a video or photos of your camera set up itself that you use to film close-ups like this and post that too? ie: I want to know how to make videos like this.

Jim Wright says:

The video is good. The music is terrible and adds nothing.

Your video was very helpful. It's removed the anxiety I had over replacing the shell. Thank you

TR Cooper says:

Thank you so much for this video! So one question I have is what was it that you did to make the key fit tighter? I couldn't really see what it is that you did kind of what you added.

Tomas Gilsamaniego says:

Hi, great video! I have the same problem, but mi 2008 Honda Fit has the key with just 3 buttons (the guts is just the same form and size, though). My question is since I noticed the blade is held by just the two bottom screws that do not come through the blade itself, is the plastic sturdy enough to last without breaking? Thanks!

Pat A says:

Video is great. The battery/chip you used is not the same as the one shown on the Amazon website. Did you make any modifications to the shell so your battery/chip would fit?
