I hope you don’t take this the wrong way but I don’t recommend these
methods unless it’s on your own vehicle , first before removing the spark
plug I’d get compressed air if it’s possible and blow out all the gunk down
there , then remove the plug, gap the new plug because even though they
come pre-gapped, they can be dropped or not even be gapped to specs so
doesn’t hurt to double check, it’s also a good idea to add some anti size
on the threads especially on a Ford v8, add some dielectric silicon to the
inside rubber boot of the coil or plug lead, and don’t just drop the plug
in the cylinder like that get a vacuum line ! u can get away with not doing
anything I said but it’s a solid professional way to change plugs that u
can be proud of !!!

Dave Ouyang says:

FYI: Honda Civic Hybirds have a unique feature of 8 spark plugs for a 4
cylinder car. I googled up some links in comments below

EDIT: For clarity and rephrased so I don’t sound like such a jerk.

PewDiePie Bro says:

150 just for changing the plugs? wtf are they smoking?

HagerTX says:

Did the car drive any better after you changed the plugs? any difference in
mileage?

dschore100 says:

It’s a great video on how to change your plugs in your 8th Gen Honda Civic.
I opened the hood of my civic and said,” Where are the spark plug wires?”
(That’s right, no more wires from the coil, the coil is on the plug.) I
noticed someone said that he didn’t gap the plugs, if he used the iridium
NGK plugs you don’t need to gap them and you can damage the tip by trying.
But I do wish this guy would have used some anti-seize on the plugs before
setting them in and tightening them down. Whoever changes them next may not
be so happy when they can’t get them out. You can also skip a step if you
use a spark plug socket that has a rubber grommet inside so it grips the
spark plug, and you wont need long needle nose pliers.

curtiebirdboy says:

Do you not gap your spark plugs?

bennerpi says:

next time try using a vacume / washer fluid hose on the tip of the spark
plug to thread it back in. This way, you will never cross thread a plug !

david garcia says:

What the fuck is a gap setting ?!

Sean Jr says:

Isn’t there a specific torque settings for the 8th Gen?

Trent Carr says:

The factory recommends 100k, which I was around 107K or so. Thanks for
watching!

Ael Ole says:

I have a Honda Civic Hybrid 2007 european specs sedan. It needs 8 iridium
sparks and my stealership (Cyprus,Europe) wants 300 EUROS to do the job
(plus labour i think). After this video for sure am gonna change it my
self. the book recommends changing at 120.000 Km

gotaigo says:

Thanks for showing. The maintenance also says to check valve clearance. Is
that something we can so??? Thanks.

Trent Carr says:

You’re quite welcome! This is the reason I made the video! Thanks for
watching, too 🙂

BurkaLifter says:

I’ll take totally unhelpful response, for $200 Alex…

Jc Bltz. says:

Damn Honda dealer is a rip off!!! $170 to change my cabin filter I did it
my self for $11.99 the price of the filter. Beautiful video to bad mine is
a hybrid.

Kate White says:

You saved me $60. Thank you.

DaveOfKnox says:

no…they are ready to go…the gap is pre-set

Rod Maiko says:

Thanks for your video. I will show to my friends. It’s the same vehicle in
Brazil and it’s very nice diy and save money. Here, the service cost is 300
R$ ~ 150 USD in a dealer honda, but in a car department, the price is 50
USD. And more the video is free. Best regards, tks.

Trent Carr says:

Yep, just toss ’em. Since car makers put the 100K spark plugs in vehicles,
I’ve never cleaned em. And they’ve been coming pre-gapped for quite some
time also.

Trent Carr says:

must’ve been one hell of an old motor, or sitting in a swamp. I’ve never
had to crank a wrench for 4 hrs on a spark plug. something just doesn’t
sound right about that :/

Trent Carr says:

Got em at the local AutoZone. I believe they are Autolite’s. But don’t
think that spending $100 is gonna make your car a Ferrari. A plug is made
to make a spark when the coil tells it to. Bosch is also around the same
price each, $7. Thanks for watching!

camaro4spd says:

Spot on directions. To loosen the harness push down at the back of the
harness connector, it raises the front from the locking detent.

06blady says:

what km when you change your spark plug mine got 82click is it okay if im
gonna change my plug already

David G says:

You didnt put anti seize compound!

Trent Carr says:

@myhannahdotcom you’re welcome!

vxt888ify says:

If you don’t have a socket with a rubber grommet to hold it you can use the
ignition coil (black thing on he removes) to pull up the spark plug. Also I
would hand thread the spark plug first before I start going at it with the
ratchet. Overall though great video. Dealers are overpriced especially with
simple jobs like these.

Trent Carr says:

you can purchase a gap measuring device, yes, to double check them. but
probably 99% of the time, the gap is correct from the factory. thanks for
watching!

JohnnyRock2000 says:

100,000 miles before a plug change? I used to pull ’em out every 25000
miles and they always needed a cleaning an regap. Do they now just need to
be tossed every 100,000 miles now?

Charles Magnan says:

They have Coil-On-Plug setups, hence they do not have distributors or spark
plug cables.

Trent Carr says:

@GuyGaga49 i didn’t disconnect it. Ususally unless I’m taking something off
of the motor, i don’t touch it. I did put a carburetor on top of the
battery posts once lol that was classic! thanks for watching, i hope this
helped you!

Iceman000957 says:

Thanks. Good, clear video.

PRMO O says:

How about the spark plug cables? Does the 07 Honda civic SI come with
cables? I didn’t see you change them in this video. Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

Mauricio Castro says:

What mileage is required when replacing spark plugs on a Honda Civic Sedan
SE 2011?

iman says:

Buy your self a spark plug sock. There is a rubber piece inside the socket
to keep the plug from falling out. Wal-mart even sells them in a set with
all 3 sizes in the car section.

houshidar558 says:

i got the same civic with a 5 spd i see you do to nice its the holy grail
hard to find 8th gens and 9th gen non si civics eith a manual transmission,
take good care of her.

bobdavis242 says:

What about gaping

Hing ly says:

Mike Como says:

Do the plugs come pre gapped or is it all the same now days?I have no idea.

j cad says:

NGK NGK NGK iridium

Jason Hale says:

Hi there, and thanks for the great video! Question – I noticed that you
didn’t gap the plugs. Do you know what they’re supposed to be gapped at, or
do they come pre-gapped?
