It’s called a voltage regulator, a five dollar part 40 years ago and it was located on the firewall two screws five minute job later , after sitting in the backyard for four months Talk about feeling stupid, It had the same problem turned the key it would run release the key it would go off

Stay away from cars the back part of the ignition needs to changed nothing else has to come off your causing way more damage and headaches then needed

Had an ignition switch fail on me in the middle of nowhere, only thing around was a tiny hardware store. I used two household light switches, one for ignition power and the other for the starter. Ran that setup for a while until I eventually fixed it. My buddies always wanted to flip the switches to start the car lol

my chevy colorado had the shear bolts as well

@ziaudeenmahomedsayid8022 says:

The new cars come with safety bolts that have no heads so you got to hammer them off

I had mine go out in my old 95 civic, mine was a manual. I also had a switch inline with the clutch safety switch so without that depressed, the starter wouldnt engage with the clutch alone. I tried the wiggle thing for a bit, held the key in the start til i got to about 25-30, then let go and it would die in gear, wiggled it and it came back to life. Did that for about 2 weeks. Then the wiggle part stopped working and i had to drive 2 hours home holding it in the start position. This video brought back some memories haha. I loved that car. I crashed it into a tree, did major damage, rebuilt it with junkyard parts, drove for another 2 years. Sold it with 275k on it. And i saw it driving another 3 years later. 90s hondas are extremely reliable, the auto trans arent the best though, keep up with maintenance and it will run forever

Of you have an older Honda that is having a sputtering issue, and you are planning on replacing plugs/wires/distributor, etc. Start with the fuel filter, then try the others.

@beechboyj says:

Grind the heads off and the switch comes with new shear bolts

@Sean-MacGuire says:

Just weld a nut to it

@timupton8215 says:

Why did you put the big holes in your ear lobes?

@jordanbarney3070 says:

Should just be 2 Phillips heads for the switch, you don’t need to take the whole ignition down.
Best of luck
