This video provides step-by-step repair instructions for replacing the on/off switch on a Honda small engine (which is commonly found in lawn mowers, riding tractors, zero-turn radius mowers, wheeled edgers, pressure washers, and generators). The most common reasons for replacing the on/off switch are when the switch does not snap firmly into the “on” or “off” positions, when the mower is hard to start, or when the mower won’t start at all.

you can fix your switch if it is stuck in the on/off position. Remove the retainer clip behind the knob, disassemble knob, and remove the spring/ball bearing inside, then reassemble. That ball bearing gets stuck on the plastic knob eventually. The switch will continue to work even without the spring/ball bearing.
There, you saved a few bucks and only spent a couple minutes.
Why doesn’t unplugging the switch shut off the engine? Mine is stuck in the on position but switch clicks doesn’t seem bad.
Hay gracias tengo q cambiar de uno de mis motores te agradezco mucho amigo
Good for cleaning cars
I always sand some of the red paint off where the copper flap bends over on the switch for better contact because it will run but not always shut off
Es lo que buscaba tal cual sin más ni menos, muchas gracias
I also have a water pump machine shoe is not working
Thank you, I use force before, I have learned from you
My wire came out of my switch. Is there any way to open up the switch itself and put the wire back in??
I marvel at how the Honda GX160 (5.5hp) I have, which has a serial plate dating to 2001 and which is used by a civil construction company and rolls around the back of trucks before being roughly grabbed off and dragged from pile to pile in order to run a 6m concrete vibrator is still in great working order and shares every design (other than the lifting frame and coupler) with the unit shown in this video from 2011. That's a testament to the quality design and longevity of Honda small engines.
Careful! On my GX390 the switch uses 2 small Phillips screws on the back side to secure it.
