Went to the mechanic because my alternator went bad. He also replaced this part. I told him that it needed to be bleed a certain way 3 times. He assured me that I was incorrect. A week later the bolt snapped. I drove it back to him (less than a mile away) with no power steering and my wife who just found out she has cancer in the car. He swore it was due to the bolt being smaller on the part. But he said he would try it my way. Anyway, when he did all of the hydraulic fluid leaked out. When he got a new tensioner he said he would do it slower and maybe twice instead of 3 times. Now will my bolt break again? I really need this van due to my wife needing to go for treatment. Also now I have a drip of power steering at the back where the rack attaches to the steering shaft. Its a small drip that wasn't there before. I replaced my own high pressure p/s line about 3 months ago and its not leaking at the connection point. Instead it is dripping behind the "gear box" but just a drip not pouring out. Is it related to not having power steering during the previous event or unrelated?

I have watched so many of your videos and they are so helpful. This is my project this weekend. I replaced OEM with Gates about 20k miles ago. It's already gone bad, consistent with literally all forum discussion. Bought the OEM tensioner / belt to replace the Gates.

My 95 Ford is tolerant of shitty aftermarket parts. The Honda is not. OEM is such a better investment.

Those “torque specs” are very important. If not done properly you will have a misaligned tensioner which in turn can cause a lot of problems with your other pulleys. It could even work itself off the car while in use. Torque that middle bolt properly.
