This video shows how I replaced the Battery in my Honda Civic. The battery I chose was from Costco at $73, generally it is available for around $100 and the time it takes to do this entire job is around 10 minutes. You might be charged a core fee where you buy your battery, the store will refund this fee when you return your old battery. You cannot buy unsealed lead acid batteries online because they can’t be shipped. You can, however, buy a sealed AGM battery online, make sure it has at least 340 CCA (Cold Cranking Amps). However you need to take the time to properly dispose of the old battery at an automotive store, a store that sells batteries, or a recycling center that accepts them. Take the time to dispose of your old battery, remember the environment you are protecting isn’t just trees, it is also the people, pets and children you love! The work performed in the video was on a 2014 Honda Civic EX model but yours will be very similar.
Tools:
12MM Deep Socket or Crescent Wrench
Paper Towels / Plastic Brush
Steel Wool, Fine Grit Sand Paper or Wire Brush (Optional)
Parts:
1 – 12v Battery, look up your specific Civic Model, mine was Group Size 51R with at least 340 Cold Crank Amps

Just replaced my 2015 civic sedan battery and there was no alarm activated or electrical issues, just needed to reset some minor audio settings and turn off anti-theft car system, all was very easy to do. Thanks!
Great video. Was able to change my 2012 Honda Civic battery. First time DIY. Thank you!
This works, thanks!
awesome video, thank you so much for the concise instructions
What is that tool to unscrew the battery?
Thanks so much for the video! You're a lifesaver 🙂
NOTE: The alarm may go off when the new battery is installed. If it does, just turn the key in the ignition into the on position, without starting the car, to make the intermittent honking stop.
What about radio code, idle settings, memory on computer, etc? Unless the battery is totally dead there is no point in using memory saver. However, if its still cranking and you haven't lost vehicle settings, a memory saver is recommended..
That’s not 12mm! It’s 10 mm nut!
Does a stop start need a diagnosis reset
Flawless. Thanks!
Thank you for your video! I so appreciate it. My son and I changed the battery exactly how you instructed. Thanks in all your help!
No problem with the radio code or reprogramming the windows? You have to do this fast i think?
OMG ! This is exactly what I needed to know just now ! now I feel confident about doing it … thank's loads !!!
Hey thanks for going super fast in the video so that I only have to rewatch about maybe 3 dozen times. Been really helpful.
Do you need another car to jump start the new battery?
What about resetting the alarm and other issues I hear about regarding Honda cars and removing the battery.?
Thanks for the video! This was a super quick and easy process thanks to your video.
good job man
Thanks for the help. Although I had to use a 10mm socket.
