I just unbolt the tensioner to remove the timing belt AFTER I’ve made 1000% sure that my timing marks are all perfectly lined up. Just carefully undo it holding the tensioner against the block as you remove the very last screw.
I don’t bother with marking the belt b/c if your cam/crank/pulley marks are all lined up correctly there isn’t a reason why you need to mark the belt. The engine has plenty of markings to ensure that the mechanically inclined individual can understand what is happening.

I’m guessing that removing the bolts from the TB tensioner while there’s still tension on it could strip some of the threads on at least one of those bolts and/or its hole.
Have you ever marked the original TB, with matching marks on the crank and cam pulleys, then transferred those marks to the new belt? It seems to me that would be a good way to ensure the new belt’s in right, instead of basing installation solely on the timing marks.

youngcholy1 I do not have a video done of the alternator replacement yet. Mine fortunately hasn’t failed me yet although I am getting VERY close to needing to replace the bearings and brushes on mine as part of preventative maintenance.

Stay tuned and I’lll see what I can do to make one. If it isn’t too crazy to replace I’ll even consider unbolting mine just to demonstrate how to remove it.

Do you have video of changing out the alternator on this vehicle? That is what I need.

Thanks for the kind comments folks! I look forward to continue creating my videos for all sorts of things but my main focus is maintaining and repairing anything mechanical. Aasome Khokhar it’s really up to you if you want to replace everything under the timing cover. I personally don’t b/c my extensive experience working with Hondas has taught me to not waste money on unnecessary replacements. BUT it is YOUR decision if you want to save or be proactive and not take risks. Good luck!

Man, this was The Best instructional video ever. I am about to take on this job on my 2006 Odyssey Touring with 106,000 miles. I am told to replace every thing under the timing cover, for example, if you replaced the belt and put it all together and the any of the pulleys or the water pump starts to leak, you have to do the whole thing all over and spent 5-6 hours. I am think about replacing the belt, tensioner, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, water pump and camshaft seals. your thoughts Thanx
