In this video we show you what should have been a 10 minute job, turned into shit show because I got the wrong part from Advance Auto. In order to complete this job, you will need need an 18 inch (minimum) breaker bar, a 84 5/8 belt and a 19 or 14 mm socket depending on if you have the automatic transmission or manual. I started routing the belt through the crank and A/C pulley. then went to the power steering pulley. I then routed it to the alternator and idle pulley that goes along with that, then compressed the tension and wrapped it around the last idle pulley. Sit back, grab a cold one and listen to me curse and swear at some high school kids mistake.

What was your mileage when you did this? My 2008 accord is at 127,000km (79,000miles) and live in cold climate in Calgary Canada.

Okay, but will it work with a glass of wine instead of a can of beer?

Many thanks for the video.  I ran into some difficulty that others may appreciate learning about.I tried to change my serpentine belt in early March in Connecticut along with replacing my tensioner (the piston was shot).  The outside temp was 10 degrees.  After struggling to get the old belt off, the new tensioners swapped out without a hitch.  However, when I tried to put the new belt on, I could barely get the new tensioner to move.  I purchased the tensioner tool and tried to get the tensioner piston to compress.  Instead of compressing the piston, the tool head sheared off the tool.  I replaced the tool and it happened again.  The tool is cheap, but it was certainly strong enough to work under normal conditions.I thought it might have been too cold and that the piston fluid was nearly frozen, so I waited until it warmed up a bit.  That took two weeks. With 50 degree weather the piston compressed without any trouble and the 15 minute job that turned into a 2 week adventure was finally done.  Lesson learned.

hey man thanks for the video. Does our accord have a timing belt? or is it just serpentine belt change and water pump? My pulleys the belt is connected too seems like it squeels and rattles when the car starts cold. I think it needs to be tightened

so I'm a woman, is this possible for me we have the exact same car. I just couldn't see exactly ever step. Honda wanted 800 dlrs to 1000 for this job

Richard Merrill says:

Buddy, I'm working on a 2009 CRV same engine. However, I've got a big stinkin' engine mount right over the top of all these pulleys. Have you done a CRV like that?

I drive a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L Sedan Automatic V6 , this is my daily driver. I want to think you for these videos, it helps me a lot with the maintenance on my car. I just hit 100,000 Miles and need to change my serpentine belt also. Keep up the great work!!

Greg Overbeek says:

I drive a 08 civic lx coupe manual. After replacing the A/C compressor, there is way too much slack in the belt. I have no idea what changed. You mentioned using a 14mm to adjust the tension on one of the pulleys, but my car is not how you described. There is not a 14mm bolt.

Anthony Prochaska says:

I def aint going to pay a mechanic now for $70 to do this simple job. Thank you for the tutorial man!

Howdy Bud, an update on the VTC Actuator fix. Honda called to inform me that they now have the parts to fix this start up clicking/raspy sound on cold starts. They fix my car at no charge (Sierra Honda in Monrovia, CA). These are the parts they changed.
Part number and description:
14310R5A305/Actuator VTC (46T)

My goal is to help others Honda owners that have been experiencing this same issue. I hope this helps!

Actually, you're correct in your assessment of Advance. I worked for one, and I was the only certified mechanic on staff. The corporate mindset is to hire those with no automotive experience so that they can be trained to sell, not diagnose or repair. It's not a question of selling the correct parts. It's a matter of selling, period.

You damn well know what i would say if i were there with you. Jesus Christ(pardon the expression BPA) Chris!!!! Measure the old belt….those numerals in the P/N# may correlate with the length.
Lessons learned
-some of the young folks at any parts store are "dipshitiots". unorganized grab'ass'tic pieces of amphibian shit.
-Leave nothing to chance. Research,"know you shit"
-Your maintenance evolution was an absolute success.Why….because of the things you learned!
You think I became this fucking overnight!!!!Hardly!!! Hahaha
