Replacing Vent Valve Solenoid & Purge Valve Solenoid (EVAP Valve) 2005 GMC Yukon

When you get a check engine light, your parts store can test it with a little electronic device – ask for the check engine light tester. They go by many name…

If the purge is bad xan it make your car run a a little bad. Well more like
you take off when u put you foot on the gas

Jamarr Lagrone says:

My gas floats from empty to full all the time, could you help me figure
this problem out??? Thank You

Jamarr Lagrone says:

It happen when I filled the tank all the way up

Tammy24ist says:

Or whom ever can answer my question

Tammy24ist says:

What if my engine said P0496 what do you think I need to replace or unclog
if its clog Carl

Tammy24ist says:

I don’t know if its clog or I need to get new one out of each other

Dustin Mitchell says:

first off, the canister VENT valve is the one you are replacing. the purge
solenoid is the one under the hood. thats not the computer either. thats
the canister (the part that you were holding when you said the canister
attaches to the other side). computer is at other end of car. thats not the
transaxle either… thats ur rear differential. stick to what you kno, cuz
it damn sure aint cars

Tammy24ist says:

I bought a use 2007 Hyundai accent, the engine light would stay on after I
start the car. I went to auto zone to check what’s the problem was, they
said it could be purge valve solenoid or canister vent valve solenoid fail.

Carl Zorro says:

I went to AutoZone and they said give it 50 miles and the computer will
reset it. I’m sure the purge solenoid was the problem because the gas fumes
have gone. Lets see if it does reset if not then I’ll have them this time
around to erase it. thanks to you .

Chris Siems says:

At 3:28 in my video it says “under a plastic cover.” It’s in the engine
compartment, under a plastic cover, that has “VORTAC” on the front of it.
The purge valve solenoid is the part with the green cap.

teamsiems says:

Start with engine solenoid (reset electronics / alerts). If that doesn’t
work, install the gas tank solenoid. I did gas tank one first = no luck –
then engine one – success.

teamsiems says:

It probably was. I don’t remember.

Carl Zorro says:

When I buy I’ll see if it’s the one, thanks again.

teamsiems says:

Ask the store you buy the engine solenoid from how to reset your error
message; use the phrase “can you show me how to reset my check engine light
or what the error is?” They should have a tester that resets errors.

Carl Zorro says:

I have a 05 suburban lt and engine light said po445 (purge solenoid) as it
was read by Auto Zone. Now, where is that located, one person where your
video shows and another said is by the driver side of the engine toward the
back are. so..where ???????

Chris Siems says:

No video of me taking off the “VORTAC” cover and removing the valve, but it
is literally a 5 min operation. Note this is for 2005 Yukon – yours may be
different. You can Google search for purge valve solenoid and see what it
looks like; mine was about 2 inches wide and 4 inches long. All it has are
an electrical plug and an 8mm bolt.

elAdanMarquez says:

Wat was it that it did…because my 05 silverado misfires like spark plug
fails..well i changed them and no diffrence now im at a vacuum leak
maybe..i can hear a air leak could it be from the evap hose because my
conects to the top by the throttle

nosdrahcirrelyt92 says:

What code came up when your light came on. Was is PO446?

Chris Siems says:

I’m not an expert, but from what I understand, the vent valve and canister
near the gas tank, traps gasoline vapors. When you are driving at speed it
should release the vapors to be burned. If your engine is misfiring, maybe
the tubing is clogged or your canister stopped working properly. If you
replaced both EVAP parts it might be a vacuum leak. I’d ask a knowledgeable
parts store guy to test it.

Carl Zorro says:

Siems, Is that purge solenoid at engine , got a video on the replacing? or
is it just the 8mm bolt to remove and replace with new one and set back at
the bolt?

teamsiems says:

You should use the electronic tester to reset the light. Then if it comes
back test it again.

Carl Zorro says:

Cool,Cool, perfect, will get back to you 🙂 Thanks and nice clear video.

Chris Siems says:

My check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer and they connected
it to a engine tester and said it’s the EVAP value. I did some Google
research and found out there are 2 parts (solenoids) to the EVAP system –
one near the gas tank and one in the engine compartment.

Carl Zorro says:

Thanks for your info and I found the purge solenoid in my 2005 suburban lt
5.3. As you said it’s under the vortec cover ,very simple took around 20
mins to change. Now , how long does the engine light takes to shut off, If
it stays on will that mean something else is wrong to the gas thing?( gases)
