Also I found that jumping the terminals for the brake lights didn’t work either. There is a sequence of things that need to happen in order for the brake lights to work. Shitty design in my opinion. I also found that pulling the steering column out which took 5 minutes made the whole job soooo much easier.

Just a word of advice.. I just did a switch on a 98 Silverado and the switch appeared to be in more than perfect condition when I opened it up. The contacts worked perfect, everything was clean but when I put an ohm meter on the contacts in the closed position there was more than 100 ohms! When I applied voltage to the connections only about a 1/10 of a volt would flow through the switch. I installed a new GM switch with a new retainer clip for 18.00 out the door and it all works perfectly.
