How to Test and Replace an alternator on a CHEVY/GMC Truck or SUV

This particular car is a 07 GMC YUKON. This truck broke down in the middle of the Highway as the customer was driving. From what the customer told me over the phone I had a good I deal of what the problem was SPECIALLY when she told me if she jumped the car with jumper cables the car would turn on just fine but after removing the jumper cables the truck would die with in a minute. Got it Towed to the shop and did the the test Im showing on the video.
Hope it helps out.

You happen to know if I can put an altenator from 2001 Tahoe to 2007 silverado v6? Changed battery but it goes off soon as I jump cables

Jasmyne Coombs says:

05 Silverado ISSUES: Lights dim crazy, voltage jumps around, loss of power and battery light flashes. Woke up and battery is beyond dead, replaced (3 months old, warrantied) and it still nothing.. Any ideas

juan arias says:

I got the traction off and stabaltriak on my truck they both came on someone told me it could be my alternator what's your opinion

AH Glasher says:

Turns out, after a closer look, it was actually closer to 15V+. I figure now it's the alt because it dropped under 14v to 13v or less after about 12 miles. Taking it in tomorrow. Had to replace the battery about 10K miles ago and now it looks like the alt is on it's way out. With less than 50K on the vehicle, time can take as equal a toll on vehicles as mileage in some respects

AH Glasher says:

2008 Trailblazer w/47k miles;  I'm getting a steady engine light and the gauge is reading a steady 17-18v (approx). Your thoughts, please?

Ricardo Lopez says:

how about when u get 14.5 or above that means the alternator is bad aswell?

Jhoan29 Pigar says:

thank you sir for the reply help me a lot i'm not worry right now because its a normal.

Jhoan29 Pigar says:

it is a normal when you first engine start the reading is 14v something after a minute engine running na voltage is about 13.5v when you applying a load like aircon, etch. back again to 14v. silverado
