Useful information for anyone with a 2003-2013 GMC Sierra or Chevrolet Silverado related to cabin air filters. I watched other videos on this process but didn’t check the details before starting. I was told when I bought the truck new in 2003 that it had cabin air filters, but GM made a change the previous year that even the dealership wasn’t aware of. Be sure and watch before trying to change your GM truck cabin air filters!
UPDATE
There is a retrofit kit available on Amazon – you have to cut an access hatch where the filter should be and install the included filter and new hatch cover for the created hole. Several people have reported that it works, is not complex but is difficult to cut in the awkward position. Good luck if you try it!

Does anyone know WHY these year models don't have cabin air filters? How does the HVAC system keep out dust, etc?
Well… there's an air filter in place. I KNOW it… I can touch it ! but no way to get access !!! So now… how can we replace this ?%$$%??&* filter without destroying the duck ?
Crap!!! I was looking and didn't see anything. My AC stinks horribly when it's first on last about 30-40 like old sweaty feet. Was hoping my cabin filter was dirty lol. Thanks man
Dude thank you so much.
after ordering a filter for 2007 GMC Sierra, and watching youtube videos for an hour, and running out of blood pressure medication, because there is no NO FILTER where they say there is a filter I found your video, and decided to take a nap.
So where does all the dust and dirt go?
Thanks for the help brother, thought I was going crazy.
My 03 suburban doesnt have one either
Welp, I saw a video saying you could put a scent pad over the filter to keep your vehicle smelling good, but after seeing this I guess I gotta put the scent pad on the other air filter.
As usual read instruction first to find out no air filter
Hey man, i just tore apart my whole dash trying to figure this out and my wife told me to look for a vid and found yours. Thank you.
Thank you brother appreciated I was going crazy trying to find the compartment.
Thank you, my father has been looking under the dashboard for two years – searching for that dang cabin air filter. He's appreciates the information. Yes, enjoyed the video – now he's looking for the fuel filter for the 2007 Classic Sliverado.
Wtf. So they sold me something g that does not exist
