..what year did GM start using those cables?…my 1989 Chevy C1500 2wd LWB has the more traditional hinged steel straps, instead of the cables, as does my 1991 GMC K1500 SWB 4wd…I like the metal straps MUCH better than those d@mned cables…any truck I have ever owned/used with the cables, they are prone to breaking and stretching, and sudden failure, especially at the point where they are "crimped" into the ends…the folding straps rarely if ever fail, and if they do, it is a gradual thing, not a sudden snap when you are hauling a load or when stepping up on the tailgate.. :(….are the steel hinged straps available new aftermarket?…
