Video on how to change the brake pads and rotors on a 2004 GMC Yukon. Changing these parts are also the same for 2001-2006. Also the same setup for Chevrolet…

TheRykerDane says:

wouldn’t that be something….another way for the gov to make some money

John D says:

The way EPA and the vehicle E-Checks are going in only certain counties in northern Ohio and maybe all of California, I’ll bet they’re thinking of charging a tax on dust from brake usage.

TheRykerDane says:

Yes thats a really safe way to do it, but for at home DIY mechanics, then just make sure you take your cap of the reservoir tank.

Kevin McNeese says:

shop owner advised me to clamp the brake line before compressing the piston, and use the bleed valve to allow piston compression.. to avoid contaminating ABS. Can’t find anything about this technique on youtube or google searches.

TheRykerDane says:

yes they are about the same. I have a video for the front brakes as well. Just check my channel to see it. hope it helps you and thanks for watching!

merckx56 says:

Guessing the front rotors and pads would follow the same steps? Seems pretty straight forward…

TheRykerDane says:

good, idea, thanks!

juve3030 says:

You don’t need to hit that with a hammer just stick that four way cross on the end of the wrench but first turn the wheel so it fits. Nice and easy.

TheRykerDane says:

shoot, you might need some PB Blaster or some other type of penetrating oil. Or you can heat the nut of the bolt to see if it will come loose. Be careful with seized bolts so you don’t crack them or break off the nut head.

anthony brooks says:

I think the top bolt is frozen, not the bolt but the stem with the boot is froze.

anthony brooks says:

my 04 savana is exactly the same. My right rear pads started smokin tho after install. Took caliper back off today. The little boots that hold the cailper over the stem that hold the caliper bolt….they are supposed to be free correct? The bottom one I can pull out and the top is fixed. Other than that I see no problem. The pads definitely got heated up but are still fine….any help is appreciated

TheRykerDane says:

yes one side somehow had a low brake pad and starting ripping up the rotor. So they would have been too thin after getting them turned, and it is almost just as cheap and time efficient to buy new ones.

Bill Hall says:

Why did you replace the rotors? Were they out of spec?

anythingtahoo says:

u are supposedd to jack it up before you take off the lug nuts!

TheRykerDane says:

2000 model is a different style than 03-06. But they are very similar and have the same steps.

TheDantherepairman says:

Would this work on a 2000 yukon

TheRykerDane says:

You could do that if needed. Sometimes they just slide off. And if you know ahead of time then you can but if you don’t know the condition yet then try to save them.

samonenator says:

Since the rotors are being replaced, why not compress the pistons before removing the caliper by inserting a flathead between the caliper and rotor.

TheRykerDane says:

I think that I have to use a brick or block of wood for the front because my jack does not get high enough. (I need a new bigger one) A bottle jack still may not be high enough. I have another video showing how I did the front. I think I jacked it up and then put under a jack stand and then repositioned. hope it works out for you!

kynobi says:

Sorry missed an “e” in your screen name. Thanks Dane

kynobi says:

Dan
A personal/public thank you for your contribution here. I gotta ask though, is that a brick on your jack. The reason I ask is I was all set to do my Tahoes front and have a Torin 3ton floor jack and it did not raise the frame high enough. Would a bottle jack work better for an SUV?

TheRykerDane says:

Thats great, yep doing it yourself saves the money. Glad I could help and thanks for watching!

Steven Vollmer says:

Short, sweet and to the point! Excellent instructions, thank you. I’m working on my 07 Tahoe so it’s a little different, but this was very helpful. I like how you’re doing it at home in the driveway just like I am. No air tools available.

TheRykerDane says:

Thats great, its always a good feeling to get a problem solved!

PAMAROSHOUSE says:

solved my problem it was the right front sensor I tested all sensors with the ohm reader and had no signal replaced drove for a few minutes and lihts cleared

TheRykerDane says:

Thanks for the info!

dslsdad1 says:

FWY the two tab washers that you took off right before you remove the rotor do not need to be replaced back on. Those are put on at the factory only to keep he rotor from falling off as it makes its way down the assembly line.

TheRykerDane says:

no. The ABS system is constantly running on this vehicle. Its possible you are thinking that since the pads are low that they are catching on the rotors?? And maybe causing a little jerking motion? But not sure.

PAMAROSHOUSE says:

would low pads make the abs come on?

TheRykerDane says:

yep, make sure you get those fixed. Then you should be good to go!
