HOW DO U CHANGE THE WHOLE TRANSFER CASE FOR A 97 FORD EXPLORER XLT

1A Auto Parts says:

If there aren’t any bolts that hold it in place, it should just slide out.

mellis says:

Great ill be doing this over the weekend and was looking for a nice way to
get the seal on and off. thanks!

1A Auto Parts says:

It shouldn’t. You may wan to check to see exactly where the leak is coming
from. Also check the dipstick tube at the bottom to see if it’s leaking
from there at all. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Kevin Cannon says:

dude did you find out because thats what i am about to do to my 91
silverado.

OSDCrusher says:

What is the name for this seal? I cannot find it listed as a “tailshaft
seal”.

1A Auto Parts says:

@brandon1997bmx It should take about and hour.

Disco Harvey says:

Love the “special” tool! Wish I’d have watched this earlier, before I
trashed a new tailshaft seal trying to install it. Any advice for the front
pump seal?

epiphaknee says:

You cut the boot off and then you will see the metal piece of the seal.
From that point forward everything will be the same. Align the hole in the
boot oriented towards the floor.

sofujun says:

that looked like transmission fluid, shouldn’t it be transfer case fluid?
im confused. I have a leak in the same place on my 01 tahoe, and its not
transmission fluid. Its the same color as my t-case fluid.

Nicholas Merenda says:

Would putting the truck in reverse cause the tranny to leak more oil than
in drive? would replacing this seal fix the issue or is it another seal
thats bad?

plague1313 says:

Love that seal driver

1A Auto Parts says:

You may want to check it whens it’s cool. Also check the exhaust to see if
it has loosened up and is moving around.1aauto.com 888-844-3393

jtlpwilliem says:

Is this the same for 4wd?

Woodenarrows says:

Thanks, you made it look simple.

Nick Smytkowski says:

should the front end of the drive shaft just pull out or do you have to pry
it out or anything else

250beast says:

@sofujun on my 88 chevy its got atf for tcase fluid i got a couple buddys
with newer ones that are that way to

charginmahlazors says:

haha I did the seal on my truck a week ago before seeing this video. I made
the exact same seal seating “tool” .

1A Auto Parts says:

@sofujun If it’s on the tailshaft of the transmission. it would be
transmission fluid.

Clint Felton says:

how hard would that be on a 91 chevy silverado?

jandaver85 says:

i have a rattling sound coming from under my 06 silverado 4×4…could that
bad seal make the rattling sound…or could be low oil on the transfer case

BizkayneBatman says:

great video and great mechanic.

laredopro signs says:

nice tip thank you !

1A Auto Parts says:

We currently do not have a video that shows this process, if you have a
Haynes or a Chiltons manual it should be covered for you.

naps1saps says:

My transmission tail seal has a boot (Ford E4OD) how would i remove and
install there is no lip to the boot that i can see and can’t tell if its
one piece (part of the seal)

1A Auto Parts says:

@psykho15 We haven’t shot a repair video on a 91, but if the transmission
is the same as the one show in the video the process should be the same
if not similar.

1A Auto Parts says:

This is on a 4WD application, it would be the same process as long as you
have the same transfer case on your vehicle. Hope this helps you out.
