You should start with cleaning up the battery terminals so that they are making good contact with the cables. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I have a 2000 f250 v10 crew cab. My truck starts half the time with the key. The rest of the time I have to use a screwdriver to touch the starter. It’s a new starter but I also have problems with the battery terminal connecters being corroded. Sometimes everything goes haywire then the dash board light starts flashing and clicking. Not sure what the problem is.Maybe its the positive battery cable wire that leads to the starter? Or that the positive cable wire leading to the starter isn’t tight?

Ruben Hernandez says:

awsome vid guys!

1aauto says:

You could possibly have a bad ignition switch. Normally when they go, the contacts inside the switch no longer touch correctly and the vehicle does not start.

jerry barnard says:

okay i have a 82 chevy k20 the starter will not engage it was working fine 1 week ago the starter is new you can turn the key to acc everything is fine try to start it nothing no click pop buzz nothing all the wiring is connected correctly i dont know where to go from here

This will be similar in how you replace the starter for your 1993

joel diaz says:

what about a chevy 1993 pickup

1aauto says:

If it’s a 350 or a 305 it should be similar.

HiredGun5 says:

I just replaced the starter on a ’97 Tahoe. It’s the same set up and the process is the same. Watch this video, and you can do your ’98.

1aauto says:

We’ll keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this particular repair.

Dreamhoops11 says:

Can you do a starter video for a 98 tahoe?

1aauto says:

You may want to inspect the wiring on the starter to see if they are all in good shape. If there’s a broken wire on the stater it would cause the car not to start.

Axekicker4life says:

Quick background, I have a 1987 MC SS and i let it sit for a year(worked fine before i let sit, just got a gas saver). Year later i replace old battery with new but car will not even tempt to turn over. Lights work tho. Replace starter with new but not sure if my wiring is correct. I know the big wire go to the big stud(naturally) but i have 2 small wires R and S. How do i wire these on the small studs. Please help, the last thing i wanna do is have to sell it.

The jimmy may be in a different location. We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows you how to perform this particular repair. If you have a Haynes or a Chiltons manual, they should show you how to remove the starter. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

opiate9813 says:

How smiler is this to say a 2002 Jimmy, 4.3l 4×4?

1aauto says:

It’s a small flat piece of metal sometimes used between the starter and it’s mounting point.

2fast2mexican says:

What’s a shim?

TheSmokaholik says:

K thx for suggestion thats a good idea.

1aauto says:

Heavy machinery usually double nuts the cable down to the starter. If that is not possible you could always try using a small lock washer to keep everything in place.

TheSmokaholik says:

I have a problem with my battery cable going to my starter keeps loosening up, any suggestions on how to keep this cable tight so it wont keep loosening up on me? can i double nut it or something? Do some people torque the nut to tight and it strips the threads or something causing this? Would a couple of washers be safe to do to give me good contact and keep the battery cable snug to my starter? Sorry for rambling and thank you in advance.

kwajboi80 says:

thank you….i can do this…lol

1aauto says:

You may want to check all of your connections to the battery and also the new starter. It sounds like something may not be connected.

Jord9six says:

hey i got the same engine gm 305 aND after putting new starter it wont go at all no power to anything i put the battery one on the big one with another bigger one that has 2 smaller wires off of it i put
them on big nut aND THE OTHER ONE on the small prong on solinode and it wont go

1aauto says:

If it’s possible you may want to try to shorten the shims so that they’re not hitting anything. On the exhaust, sometimes if you let it get hot then let it cool down, re-tighten the bolts and the tick might disappear for you. Hope this helps you out.
