It should be a similar process. You may be able to apply some of the basic steps shown in this video to your application. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

bigfellaken86 says:

I have a 96′ Tahoe, will this be the same basic process for replacing my alternator?

1aauto says:

it is similar but they did a change over to the Vortex engine in 1999 so it might different slightly between your model and the 1998 but the concept will be the same.

Bobby Swan says:

awesome video is this same for a 1998 chevy Tahoe

XxClemsonTigersXx says:

but why would that happen as soon as i swap my alternator? ive never had that problem before…to attempt to fix that i unplugged my battery for 10 minutes and when i connected it my truck started then idled for like 1 second than died…did this 3 times then 4th it ran fine and have had no trouble ever since

1aauto says:

There could be an issue with the battery terminals. Over time, battery terminals can rot from the inside out and oxidize. You will want to change out the cables and see if that solves your problem.

XxClemsonTigersXx says:

awesome video guys!! thanks!! one question though? My battery light has been on ever since i swapped my alternator but its charging fine and the volts are good, what gives?

Tricia Hunter says:

I am a 39 yr old mom of 3 boys & thanks to you I changed my own alternator on my 2003 Chevy Tahoetwo weeks ago!! You guys made it so easy! I am not one to read directions & be able to fix something. But since I had such a good visual it was EASY! Now I need to figure out what is wrong w/ my husband truck! It starts but then dies. It is not the alternator or the battery. Wish I knew the problem so I could watch another one of your videos to fix it!!

David Mason says:

You rock, took me about an hour. You explained it perfectly.

koqallak says:

thanks this video helped a lot and saved me money!

Ken Baum says:

Where do I send the case of beer? This took all of 35 minutes in the parking lot of a strip mall. The only step I had to change was removing that pesky clip after removing the alternator from the mount. Viewer for life, well done.

Kevin Carley says:

Thank you!

1aauto says:

It should be as long as it has the same motor. If you call our sales staff at 888-844-3393 they can tell you what the correct alternator for your application would be. We carry brand new alternators with no core charge for all kinds of vehicles. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Kevin Carley says:

Is this the same as a 2002 Chevy Tahoe Z71??

Dan King says:

Thanks for doing these videos! I was thinking of taking it in! 500 to have the shop do it! Bite me!!!!

1aauto says:

If it’s the same vehicle it should be in the same spot.

1aauto says:

Thanks for watching. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

ovsgmc05 says:

Thanks for replying! Will the tension bolt be in a different spot? I plan on swapping my own to save $ on labor.

championonwheels says:

I just broke down. 45 minutes later, I was on my way. Thank God for YouTube!

1aauto says:

It will be similar on the 2005 but not exactly the same for that year.

ovsgmc05 says:

Will work on a 2005 sierra right?

TOXIXIFY says:

Thanks SO much! My first time changing an alternator was a breeze! (mostly because it’s 20 F outside) I never had to take the engine cover off on my 99 Sierra.

1aauto says:

You should ba able to match up the year/make/model and motor size to the alternator that you need.

1aauto says:

Yes it should be the same.

Fred H says:

Same thing on a 02 Tahoe?

Billy Bain says:

Very helpful. Thanks!

Eduardo Sandoval says:

how do I know which code is for the alternator on my glove box sticker? i dont have the kg8 code…i have a 1999 yukon slt 5.7L 4WD..

1aauto says:

It would probably take about 45min to service the alternator. We carry NEW alternators, with no core charge on our website with free shipping. These aren’t rebuilts they’re brand new units. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Kayla Hackney says:

Can you tell me about how long the whole process takes? I got in my truck this morning and it said “battery not charging”. I gave it some gas to send voltage and the message went away. Took it to have the battery tested and it did the exact same thing. So the guy said that my alternator either has a short somewhere or it is going out. Should I just replace the alternator?? I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado. 4.8.

SwiftSilentDeadly23 says:

Great step by step video, I now can’t imagine taking my truck in to have a mechanic do this, as simple as this was. Thanks!

rcfreak35 says:

Thanks for your response, to illustrate, the sound it makes when i try to turn it on is like when the metal fan blade of a lawn mower hits some kind of huge rock that wont budge and the metal blade scrapes/clanks on the rock. that’s the terrible sound it makes only louder and the darn thing wont start! Thanks.

1aauto says:

You could have someone try to start the truck while you listen to hear where the sound may be comeing from.

rcfreak35 says:

Hi, I just wanted to ask you, my 96 chevy suburban won’t start at all. I checked the battery cleaned the MAF sensor (unless it needs a new one!) and replaced the starter and when I try to start it it makes a horrible sound like some kind of loud rusty metal sound effect! that’s how I can best describe it. I believe it has the original alternator (I think!) please help! Thank you.

Love these videos. They are a great reminder for a task you haven’t done in awhile.

1aauto says:

This video covers form 99-02. Your 98 may be similar. Usually there are only a couple of bolts holding these on.

Richard C says:

Does this apply to a 98 Tahoe?

bubbabouyi says:

Thank you , video was big help
