nice video but i agree with Thomas Bowman. the problem of routing the oil cooler lines in a serial circuit with stock radiator cooling is that the benefits of dropping few degrees when oil passes trough the cooler are lower because it later goes to a hotter zone (radiator) before reach the transmission itself. Dexron III is designed to work at 175 degrees, engine work at higher temp. so reuse the radiator circuit just add more temp to fluid.

No bursted bubbles or epiphanys here. Like was stated in the video, there are two schools of thought on how to hook them up.

Thomas Bowman says:

So take the radiator out of the scheme of things is all I’m saying just use the transmission cooler

Thomas Bowman says:

I hate to burst your bubble on the whole install of the transmission cooler you won’t prolong the life of the transmission with plumbing it back into the radiator because of the ge lather conflict . The transmission operates at a lower temp than the engine find out your thermostat rating and know that your transmission will operate at about 180 -190 degrees F and that the engine more than likey operates at about 212 degrees F .

I like this rack very much. Once i`ve built a roof rack for a Landrover an we`ve lost it on a sahara dune.
We could put it right back on the roof and nothing was bend.
But it was not such a beauty like yours. Thumbs up.

I learn something everyday,cool.

Oldsmob455 says:

The truck was just set up as a work truck and is going to be loaded with stuff all the time. The cooler was installed to try to prolong the life of the transmission. I doubt the owner will notice any difference in performance but may realize a difference in longevity. As always, thanks for the post.

UP here in Canada we have mandatory daytime running lights, and they always burn out so I’ve used those GM retaining pins many times. Like Jafromobile, I like them because they are so slick.
This is a straightforward review, good job. What problem prompted you to upgrade trans cooling? Do you expect to notice a difference?

Jafromobile says:

Yeah, I lol’d when first encountered the headlight pins on GM trucks. I was all like WTF?!?!?! Then I SRSLY?!?!’d. I even GTFO!’d. But in the end, I like it. For exactly the same reason you liked it.

Very tidy install! A+!

Well done !! Good tip on using a heat gun to find the cooler temp on the return line.
