DakotaTheKid97 says:

How do you get that panel off? Do you just pop it off? I don’t want to force it and end up breaking it

I just tried this on my 2003 S-10 ZR2 and it worked! The shop said my push buttons where bad so I bought a new one which still didn’t work. After watching this video I tried it cleaning the connections and using dielectric grease on the pins and it worked, THANKS!

BUZZ DUR says:

thank you, thank you, “friggin”
chevrolet s10 zr2 2002.

01hondascott says:

mine was a blown 4wd motor, the fatherinlaw had a old jimmy sitting in his yard he upgraded to a brand new sierra, so i took the 4wd motor outta his truck tossed it in my sonoma , its never worked so well, in and out of 4wd at the touch of a button.

satguy27 says:

Mine gets way better gas mileage in 4 hi than it does in 2 hi, other than that the only problem I have is my Jimmy has an issue with shifting from 1st to second. Tried a new shift solenoid and new valve body, hasn’t fixed it, any idea’s?

colorado1516 says:

i like the video! i did what you said to do i got some electronic cleaner and put some dielectric greese in the terminals and it worked really good but then i just tried to use it the other day and it was just flashing so i repeated and took it apart and cleaned it and no luck. im missing a small terminal and the other ones are starting to carode. So i went to napa auto parts to replace that box and they had no idea what it was called and neither do i. do you by chance?

01hondascott says:

any luck?

01hondascott says:

wow, great thank you, its all this time later and im still haveing this problem, i almost forgot makin this post.

pigpen616 says:

frigginwidowmaker says:

Watch the video called ‘please send canteen’ 🙂

01hondascott says:

hey i gotta ask, what was in that box

frigginwidowmaker says:

it can work like that.

01hondascott says:

same problem as most others, but mine wont come back outta 4 wheel drive, anyone else have the same problem?, did this fix it?

djgarcia95 says:

i can hear it clunking under the car

frigginwidowmaker says:

this procedure can solve that. Not always, but if its just dirty wiring, then yes.

Have you tried this?

When you say it is trying to shift, you mean you can hear it clunking under the car… or it never actually gets to that point?

djgarcia95 says:

i have a 96 gmc jimmy and when i put mine in 4 hi the 4 hi and 4 lo buttons just blink and it sounds like it is trying to shift in to 4 wheel but never does

frigginwidowmaker says:

Theres plenty more where that came from, I’ve even got another fix for this common problem. Don’t forget to sub :P

fasterktm says:

Thanks, just bought an 02 S10 ZR2 and no 4×4 tried everthing and no results. I stubbled across your video, went out to the garage and tried this out and sure as sh*t it worked. Thanks for the video man. Oh and Princess is my favorite store as well.

BdubzM322 says:

wow, great. ill give it a try tomorrow. thanks alot!

frigginwidowmaker says:

Nope. just slide them out the rear of the plug. The wires are in sorta slots.

If memory serves correct, theres a clib or something that keeps the wire ends secure there… undo it and the wires should slide out.

BdubzM322 says:

it does sorta. so i would have to un solder and re solder the wires back into the harness?

frigginwidowmaker says:

there’ll be little metal connecters soldered to the ends of the wires. They slide out from the rear of the plug IIRC. Looks for evidence of corrosion anywhere there and cleand it. If theres nothing showing, start by pulling the power and ground wires.

One of them is most likely not making a good connection around the pins. If any of your pins were really dirty, the wire that mates to it is likley corroded as well(inside plug).

Hope that makes sense. Its hard to explain.

frigginwidowmaker says:

OK, so this method works. However, sometimes you have to plug too. The last time I fixed this vehicle, I had to pull a couple of the wires out from the rear of the blue plug, clean the corrosion off and then reinsert them back into the blue plug.

The wire’s ends might be corroded within the plug, even though the plug’s pinholes look fine.

frigginwidowmaker says:

Theres another part that probably needs cleaning. I’ll have to get back to you in the morning about it though, I couldn’t describe the process atm… need to go out and actually look at the vehicle again.

BdubzM322 says:

ok, i cleaned the terminals and they were pretty bad. started the car w/o them in, shut it off, then started it with them in. i saw an improvement. actually hearing some minor clunks but no major “lock sounding” Clunks. but when press the button and hear these”clunks” the light dosnt go solid. what could be the problem? actuator? please either reply or pm me

EricTehRedneck says:

i had a similar problem but with my gauge cluster odometer / gear shift display in my 99 sierra. it was going off and on intermittently, i ended up cleaning the blue pin connecter to the top of it and sprayed the friggin pins with some white grease and it works fine now. i guess after years of abuse them connecters start to corrode / separate. awesome vid man keep cheechin in the free world!

frigginwidowmaker says:

Thanks for clearing that up. I was starting to feel pretty silly. lol

theEYERUNMAN says:

It’s not the ECU. You are correct it is the 4×4 module. You should hear it make a noise when you shift in and out of 4×4

frigginwidowmaker says:

I was also just thinking… after cleaning the corrosion from the plug, I had to start the vehicle with the plug out, which reset whatever that box is.

If it was the OBD2 ECU, I don’t think it would have let the vehicle start and run.

frigginwidowmaker says:

I’m pretty sure its the 4×4 module because I traced the switch’s wires to it and there isn’t much else happening with it. It only has one plug and most of the pins are used for the 4×4 switch.

I could be wrong though. There are so many damned computers in vehicles now. Its also the first time I’ve worked on that Jimmy.

My training was in diesel and heavy equipment. I’ve been able to transfer the knowledge to passenger vehicles, for the most part, but I may not get all the terminology

sc0tte1 says:

I know nothing about trucks so beg my pard if i’m wrong 😛

sc0tte1 says:

Isn’t that the OBD II ECU, not a 4×4 module?
