Easy Fix- GMC/Chevy 2007-2013 Flashing Check Engine/ Stabilitrak/ Traction Control

Several lights such as check engine flashing , stabilitrak, traction control and rough idling came up all at once. After research I was quickly able to find that it was simply a problem with miss-fires in the cylinders and the other indicators were common byproducts. I simply changed the spark plugs and fixed the problem instantly. Truck runs great, I took it over a mountain pass and back pulling my camper immediately after with no problems in the 300+ miles over the weekend. Hope this helps:)

I hit a bump hard, the stabilitrak and check engine appeared on my dashboard. The crazy thing is that looks like the engine Is knocking. At autoZone I was told it’s cylinder 1. Could it possible be the plugs too?

2012 GMC sierra 1500 here.

changed plugs, worked for a week then started it again. changed wires (thought i saw some rubbed insulation on #5), no effect, still doing it. changed coil pack (v6, the single pack up in the back where distributors used to go in the old days). thought that had fixed it as it ran great for 5 weeks. then started doing it again this past monday.

I know its electrical in nature and not the stuck lifter that others have described, since if you take both battery leads off and let it sit for an hour to fully deenergize/reset. then hook it back up and go for a drive everything is fine. but when you turn if off and start it up again, it starts doing it straight away.

I don't think my engine has AFM since its a V6 but i could be wrong. Could it be the ignition control module? something bricked in the ECU? idk. i just want to get this thing fixed so i can sell it and be rid of it. I got a BMW with 100k miles on it that's more reliable than this truck has been with only 47k, since day one. Freaking ridiculous that an american made truck is this shitty. Think i'll buy a nissan…

My 07 Avalanche is doing this now , same lights as urs definitely gonna change the plugs today . They need a app for ur phone to do a diagnostic lol

Wayne McShan says:

There is a wire with a small plug on it that me and a guy from O'Reilly's found last year, after my truck started doing this. Plugged it back in and engine was smooth, all lights went off and I was able to remote-start my truck again. I don't remember which side of the truck we were on so I'm looking for it again – if you know what I'm talking about, please share.

Mine just started doin the same thing today! 18 z71 19k on it. I was in 4WD driving through freezing rain and snow. I was stopped at a light turned green the tires were spinning a little then my check engine light started blinking and my traction control light popped on as well but it turned off a few miles later. I’m going to take it chevy in a few days but I’m kinda nervous to drive it.

A few years ago I had the same issue, replaced the plugs and problem was solved! thanks for sharing, I hope more people check on their spark plugs before they spend a ton of money.

my 2010 chevy avalanche did the same thing i ignore for months then all of a sudden one piston snap on me going up a hill and mest up my cam too had to overhaul my engine

The gunk is from the oil build up from afm shutting down lifters to kick in 4cylinder use. Design flaw many channels have videos on that subject. I just found out as I would be upset about my plugs being fouled out. Change oil and clean injectors time to time

L. M says:

2012 Silverado, mine did the same. New plugs and wires, cleaned throttle body, mass flow air sensor cleaned and the electrical connector, checked and tightened air cleaner, Lucas in the gas tank. So far so good. Will keep an eye on it

Elisha Duncan says:

I have a GMC Yukon 07and it did the same thing great video same fix.

Justin Trujillo says:

Yes and both have also been replaced along with throttle position sensor… maybe a miss fire? Maybe a coil pack, o2 sensor or stuck lifter

Kody Hazelwood says:

My 2015 Chevrolet Silverado has 57,002 miles. Engine light came on and the dealership mechanic said I needed a engine rebuild due to a stuck lifter and misfire on cylinder #1. $5k in repairs on a vehicle less than 5 years old. GM mechanic said it was a common problem. GM is trash in reliability.

Negative battery cable have to be replaced by new updated one there’s a recall!! I did everything to my truck and ended up being a 50 dollar new negative battery cable!!! Recall number 05-06-04-046 look this recall up about the negative battery cable! This negative cable makes a shortage

08 suburban ltz 197000miles 4×4.. same here with me. Number 7 was BURNT.
Within the last 4 weeks I've done this:
All spark plugs & wires, MAF sensor, cleaned throttle body(without removing it or forcing it wide open), seafoam in 2 fill ups, installed range AFM disabler, fuel system cleaned and flushed at shop, driver's valve cover.
After all this I'm still getting CEL, traction control and stabilitrack. I had rough idle AND hard shift BEFORE touching throttle body. I'm not giving up so next I'll test my coils..

I also wanna add that I unplugged my old MAF sensor and the truck kept running, however, when I slowly plugged it back in the engine attempted to die. When I installed new MAF sensor I repeated same steps and the engine KEPT RUNNING. I ended up keeping my old maf in storage and left the new one on.
I absolutely despise seeing ANY dash lights!! Any suggestions besides scrapping my truck?

Nereida Olalde says:

My engine light only blinks when the stabilitytrak comes on too so should I replace the spark plugs ??

P B says:
