Blazer02LS says:

Humid air that condenses on the colder steel. The water normally evaporates
but the insulation sucks it up like a sponge. Holds it next to the steel
and causes rot. Grab a pair of the door skin pliers like Eastwood sells
http://www.eastwood.com/door-skin-removal-pliers.html Opens that seam nice
and doesn’t buckle the outside.
Then I like to run a brush in there to get the scale out. Then some
phosphoric acid mix to eat the rust. primer, crimp shut and seam seal. Then
some fluid film from inside the door. Seems to slow the rot WAY down….

the insulation on my 88 4×4 was rubber but still allowed the truck to rust
the cab corners out though. my 89 silverado Sport has just now gotten one
hole in the cab corner mostly from sitting it tall grass and my 91
silverado long bed so far has escaped that fate all together. that’s all
the pickups i have the others are suburban, tahoe,S-10 Blazer, firebird and
saturn ,
